First Sgt. Katrina Moerk said she never sought recognition for correcting soldiers' unethical behavior online, but received it anyway, and from high places.
Lt. Gen. James McConville presented Moerk an Army Medal of Commendation at a Dec. 15 ceremony at the Pentagon and the senior noncommissioned officer received in-person praise from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.
...
Nearly a year ago, Moerk clicked on a link from a popular Facebook page to watch a video lampooning barracks life. In one scene, soldiers escorted a new recruit past a female soldier's room and the tour guide described the woman as a "piece of meat" who sleeps with all the male soldiers. He said her name is "Suzy Rottencrotch."
"I was absolutely appalled and disgusted. This is what would be portrayed to the Army, to prospects, to future soldiers, to other nations," Moerk said in an official Army video titled "Confronting Unethical Conduct on Social Media."
