  • Reasonable individual finds swastika on gift wrap

70 years dead and Hitler's still trolling Jews from beyond the grave.

    She did Nazi that coming.

A California woman was outraged when she found what appear to be swastikas adorning Hanukkah gift wrap at a local Walgreens.

Cheryl Shapiro called her rabbi and then the manager at the Northridge, Calif., store, NBC Los Angeles reported.

"I really put my foot down because I was appalled by this," said Shapiro, who was with her grandson Saturday when she noticed the offensive logo apparently woven into a pattern on gold and blue wrapping paper.

Took me a while to find it.
"As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12

In any case, the swastika is facing the wrong way to be the Nazi version.

            I must need a diagram. I don't see it.

Looks more like a take-off of a Greek key, to me.

Never mind. I see it now.

It's so small I think you'd have to be REALLY looking for it to find it.

I thought it looked more like a Pac-Man level.

Some people just don't feel complete if they can't find something to be offended about.

I have a friend who used to run a website www.unoffendedjew.com. He has since given it up, so the name is available, I think, but he got tired of fellow Jews complaining about Christians saying "Merry Christmas". He said, "INVITE ME, I'll come to your party and laugh at your jokes and eat your food and drink your booze, and I won't be offended!"

He was a lot of fun.

We had a similar story in Denmark when an old Jewish woman discovered a washing powder for white clothes called Cyclone, which as a name she found to be uncomfortably close to Zyklon B, the name of the gas that killed the Jews. After a complaint the washing powder was taken out of the store, and re-branded I think.

I'm curious to see how many Jews have this kind of sensitivity, especially as both of these cases are utterly unintentional. Checking a couple of Jewish websites and reading the comments I found mostly that the Jewish commentators found that this was overreacting, with maybe one or two agreeing that it was good that they took down the product. There is quite a bit of selection bias going on here though, as I'm only getting Jews to who frequent the sites easily reached by Google.
