    Consider laws that limit people from under a certain age from consumption or purchase of alcohol. The higher the cutoff, the greater the number of people whose freedom the law suppresses (to a certain extent). It is not the case that there is only one single value for the age that is reasonable, rather there is a range of ages varying from culture to culture and from time to time.

    Another example would be mandatory education (up to a certain level).

            The irony, of course, is that one of the hallmarks of liberalism is the valuing of individual liberty over the social good - true liberalism, and not that bastardised 'liberalism' defined on a one-dimensional relative scale.
