  • Why Should Uninformed People Vote?

In a recent poll 41% of those surveyed did not know who the Vice President was. And it was worse for naming the three branches of government, never mind a general understanding of our form of government. And these dismal results in a 2010 comprehensive poll include college students. My question is - why should people who do not even understand the basics or don't take the time to inform themselves have the right to vote? What do they bring to the table? Why do we want uninformed people steering the destiny of this nation? Would you give a drivers license to someone who was clueless about the rules of the road?

I don't have a problem with people voting while in their work clothes. Presumably you meant uninformed.
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Yes, I left out an N. Perhaps some one can fix it.

It's interesting that we make people take civics tests to become citizens, but do not require the same of our citizens when they vote.

And we should - at least the first time they register.

Is he in charge of strip clubs?

Not this one. He's too busy being the town jester.

I do not want my life to be in the hands of uniform-clad military joes and uninformed people. Lord, please no more democracy.

I agree that the uninformed should not vote, but who decides who is uninformed. Understanding the system, which is what "civics exam" would test. What we need are voters informed on the issues.

What I really want is voters who will vote the way I want them to vote.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

I think just a basic understand of our system would be a good start. And a basic understanding of the founding documents. I suspect that these things are no longer taught in school.

Er...I'm not sure how to say this politely, but from what I've seen, you don't seem to actually understand those things yourself. Otherwise, you might've realized that many of your threads railing against a perceived loss of freedom are irrelevant/have missed the point. You also might've realized that many of the things you call "fascist" or "communist" aren't actually fascist or communist at all. So I agree, a basic understanding of our system and of the founding documents would be a good start. (To be clear, I could also stand to study the issues in more depth, as could we all.)

I'll put my knowledge of the Founders and the founding documents up against yours any day of the week. Everything I have been arguing is based on their arguments.

Find better inspirations, they were wrong.
