I don't follow the Honey Boo Boo show. But I am following the fallout from the reports that Mama is dating a sex offender. Obviously she denies it...but of course the media is feeding off the allegations, costing her the show and maybe, according the link below, her kids if the child services determine she can't control their contact with the registered sex offender. Please note the very last line of this article.

Doesn't help that he knew about his HIV status for almost a year yet still had relations with this 14 y/o.

I heard this report on NPR the other day about how sex offenders do find it hard to find a place to live and many end up homeless or in "sex offender colonies." ACLU is trying to make a case in Miami-Dade County for these men out of prison to be able to live somewhere. (yes, you see NPR and ACLU and think, LIBERALLLL!), but...these are humans who can be redeemed.
Here's the plight of one of those:
One of the men was a 26-year-old who declined to give his name, as he is listed in Florida's registry of sex offenders and concerned he could become a target. He's been living outside here for more than a year, since he was released from prison and had a conversation with his probation officer.
"They asked me, 'Do I have a place to stay?' I sat there and explained it to them," he says. "This family member, this family member, this family member — I can't stay with them, because this family member, 'Stay this amount of feet from the school,' and this family member I'd stay at is a day care or something, and this family member has minors staying in the house."
Under Miami-Dade County's law, anyone convicted of a sex offense involving a child is banned from living within 2,500 feet of a school. That excludes almost every neighborhood in the county.

I suppose it depends on what you define as a "sex offender". Like how people who accidentally walk out the door without any pants on, in a drunken stupor or something, are automatically put on the same watch list as pedophiles and rapists.

I do think sex offenders get far too lenient sentences, while some minor, in my opinion, offenses get disproportionate sentences.

what are we supposed to do with offenders like these? He paid his debt to society and turns around and does this. Lord have mercy on us all.
As someone once very sarcastically said, "what are we supposed to do - put all the sex offenders into concentration camps?" This was in reference to all the restrictions our state put on where sex offenders could live. Obviously that wouldn't be right, but what do we do?Tags: None
