VP Biden had declared that "come hell or high water" we will be out of Afghanistan by the end of this year. Afghanistan recently made a pact allowing US forces to stay until 2024.

Too bad Nouri al-Maliki did not allow us to keep more modest force in Iraq. I am not advocating perpetual war, of course, but once we were dragged into the previously relatively stable mess in Iraq, we might have been able to (at least delay if not) prevent the slide into civil war with the ascendnce of ISIS. The question is, how long would we have needed to stay to perpetually delay the inevitalbe?

Yeah, there too. A simple extradition request has become a 13+ year war with no real end in sight.
