I don't see a contradiction between personal justice and forgiveness and still accepting that legal consequences must occur. If somebody commits rape, the victim may forgive but the rapist must still go to prison.
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Well just look at the stats for boys growing up in single parent fatherless homes.

You can't take one aspect of someone's childhood and argue that it must have influenced something that he did twenty years later. Besides, given that such people are likely to come from poor, crime-ridden backgrounds, it's far more likely that it was the lowly economic/social status that had long-reaching influences rather than merely not having a father figure.

I'm a Catholic so I believe we'll all receive the fullness of God's Justice on the day of Judgement. Either you'll be found spotless and white as snow, or you will be damned. That's why we believe that salvation requires repentance and acts of contrition, as well as partaking in Christ's sacrifice. Though this is getting off topic.

It all goes back to the family. Intact families have better economic social status.

The only thing you are going to receive on Judgement day Leonhard is MERCY, and thank God for it!

Playing Devils advocate...(no I don't condone Ray Rice's behavior) Let me ask this question of you all...would we be having this reaction if the person assaulted had been his a male buddy who is 5'7" 175 lbs? Who hit Ray first on the elevator? (which seems to be the case according to the reports and the video)

Probably not, and yes his wife did hit him first. But that is no excuse. Ya just don't hit girls...

No. Despite all those who are so keen on the idea that men and women are identical in every way, violence against women by men is rather more frowned upon than male-on-male violence.

I haven't watched the video, but I was under the impression that it showed Ray Rice being the only physical aggressor. If a guy takes a swing at another guy, whether or not he connects, society sees him as fair game for physical retaliation in kind. If a football player gets into any sort of fight, whether he initiated it or not, he's likely to face disciplinary action of some sort (though nothing like this).

This is the age of gender equality. One person strikes another (without provocation, and assuming that the person who strikes in not actually a child), in a sane society, the person who gets struck would be seen as dealing with an assailant.

I watched the video last night. It appears that Ray is in her face on the elevator. She slaps (or hit) him. He pushes her back against the elevator wall and backs up across the elevator. She charges forward at him and he swats at her knocking her down. I don't know if she hits the rail or not, so, it's impossible to say from the video if he knocked her out or the result of the swat did it by knocking her into the rail.

Sounds more like a brawl than an assault

Thanks. I really didn't want to have to watch it myself.
