  • over a hundred female celebrity naked photos leaked

Word on the series of tubes is that they were leaked from an exclusive private celebrity naked pic sharing network (who probably didn't want the attention). I haven't seen many of them because my internet connection is too slo... err, because I have no interest in contributing to such a depraved and unjustifiable act. Also, if Manwe disappears for a few days, now you know why.

Liberals (especially feminists) are also livid at the breach of privacy resulting from uploading your naked pics to a remote server.

Renowned mass murderer Jessica Valenti says:

There is an obsessive tendency in American culture with elevating women—young, beautiful women, especially—to celebrity status just to bask in their eventual fall. There’s also a tendency in American culture, meanwhile, to shame women for their sexuality. So I would not be surprised in the days ahead to see arguments as to why this is somehow the fault of the celebrities whose phones were hacked—that these women took the pictures, that they were posing, that generating publicity is part of their job.

But victim-blaming is just that, no matter how famous the victim is. We live in a culture with a peculiar relationship to female celebrity. In much the same way that misogyny tells men that women are there for male consumption, the public and media tell us that famous women are public property. It’s why models and pageant queens are expected to smile graciously and respond to horny teen boys asking them to prom, or why they’re called uptight xes if they don’t smile for every camera shoved in their face. The underlying premise is that these women have consented to being there for public entertainment—whether they like it or not.
I find little to disagree with any of this. I just don't understand why Jessica Valenti thinks any of this is a problem.

Some person I never heard of further elaborates on the same themes:

There are a few different issues that a criminal act like this brings up, but before I get into them it's necessary to make one thing clear: If you deliberately seek out any of these images, you are directly participating in the violation not just of numerous women's privacy but also of their bodies. These images - which I have not seen and which I will not look for - are intimate, private moments belonging only to the people who appear in them and who they have invited to see them. To have those moments stolen and broadcast to the world is an egregious act of psychic violence, which constitutes a form of assault.

The people sharing these images are perpetuating an ongoing assault. The people gleefully looking at them are witnessing and enjoying an ongoing assault. When you have been asked by victims of a crime like this not to exacerbate the pain of that crime and you continue to do so anyway, you are consciously deciding that your enjoyment, your rights and perhaps even just your curiosity are more important than the safety and dignity of the people you're exploiting.
Psychic violence, not just for Professor X anymore.

Recommended links under the same article:

"Finally, someone tried weed lube and wrote about it" next to a woman's face in what is presumably mid orgasm.
"Keira Knightley's topless shoot powerful and feminist"

My stance on this issue can be summed up as:

    "Good, Good"

For some reasons liberal true believers thought they could unleash the sexual liberation beast while restraining typically male (and especially teenager) behavior in this regard (and others). Times will be very interesting when the 4chan generation grows up and instead of dealing with weak, ineffective Christian Conservatives the chief opposition of progressives will be Gentleman Rapist Trolls.
"As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

From what I hear, there was not some naked celebrity network. Someone at 4chan hacked specific user's iCloud accounts and grabbed the photos.

Either way it is an invasion of privacy.

I was surprised to see a thread about this, figuring that it was WAY beyond TWeb's annoyingly Puritanical boundaries. Then I saw that the thread starter was Darth and I wasn't surprised anymore. Good on you for attempting to start a conversation on this, I guess.

Anyhow, the main issue here is that the theft (come on, this wasn't a leak. That term implies that the celebrities in question "accidentally" let the pictures slip away. This was a criminal act.) wasn't merely an instance of one horny individual being unable to restrain himself. (Or herself, I guess.) If that was the case, the perpetrator could simply kept the pictures on his/her own hard drive and gleefully rejoiced in having a treasure trove of illegally obtained pictures constituting a blatant violation of privacy. Instead, he/she had to share them with the whole world, to make the humiliation public and global. That's not "failing to restrain typically male behavior."

Not to mention, evidently one of the celebrities (McKayla Maroney) was underage when the pictures were taken, which means that whoever stole them is technically in possession of child pornography.
Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.--Isaiah 1:17

Sharing the loot with your buddies is typical male behavior. In the age of the basement dwelling dweeb, that means your friendly neighbourhood infamous message board.

I'm guessing that given the OP and this here, it is the obvious conclusion, that you are a basement dwelling dweeb.

These kinds of things are technically:
14 year old girl shares nude photo of HERSELF with just one other person - she gets to be on the sex offenders list ... for life.
14 year old boy gets caught skinny dipping - same result.

If the claim is true that a picture of an underage person was stolen and circulated, the culprit(s) might get just desserts - something that wouldn't happen if the only victims were adult.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but odds are McKayla Maroney was 17 at the time she took the pictures, unless they're several years old. Is that not over the age of consent in most states? Or is that only the age of consent to sex? And if it is...why can you consent to sex but not to taking naked pictures of yourself?

Probably for the same reason why prostitution's legal if the camera's rolling.

Age of consent for pornography nude photographs and films is generally set higher than the age of consent for sex. Mileage might vary though.

It's a good issue to force liberals and liberaltarians to admit to attitudes they never admit to otherwise.

I could answer this in a heartbeat, but I would be unfairly privileged by my experience with things like tradition, science, and culture to explain it, and I want to hear the credited autistically legalistic response first.
