  • The Gospel Coalition casts doubt on ISIS beheading story

There is no doubt that ISIS is on a genocidal rage against Christians in Iraq, but (thank God) it turns out that viral beheading story may not be true. I would encourage everybody not to spread this particular story, as it makes it look less credible when we share reports of actual ISIS violence.

"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

When I left a comment at Catholic Online, showing that the picture of the little girl may be from the Syrian Army and not ISIS, they removed my comment. WARNING: http://www.syrian-martyrs.com/en/ind...rtyrs&Itemid=6

I'm definitely not apologizing for ISIS, they are evil. They are killing children, but Catholic Online seems to be using pics from atrocities that weren't from ISIS and labeling them as ISIS, and I'm afraid that would make people see things being said against ISIS is propaganda to invade Iraq again.

It seems unlikely that Syrian soldiers would be wearing sandals, so I'm curious what makes you think they're Syrian troops? Also, what would be the reason for propaganda on the side of a Catholic site? I'm not denying that the Catholic site is covering for the Syrian army, but I always like to look at motive. Christians being persecuted is definitely detrimental propaganda against the US government, that we know for a fact is at least indirectly funding these radicals, thus I can believe they would do everything they could to counter this reality, but I can't see where the opposite would be equally detrimental to Catholic interests.

There wasn't any pics of the people who did that to the little girl. So I'm not sure you're getting the sandals from? :shrugs: The site I linked to was a Syrian Martyrs page saying that the little girl in one of the photos was killed from the regimen.

I'm not trying to imply that the Catholic site is covering for the Syrian army. Maybe they deleted my comment because they thought I was saying that ISIS isn't all that bad, which I'm not.

The problem I have with this, is that people would call into question other things that are said about ISIS because the pictures may not be from ISIS, and believe that it is all propaganda.

Okay, I thought you were referring to the pic in the article that KG linked to. I didn't click the link you posted because I thought that was the Catholic site you were talking about. My bad.

When you see videos of them eating the raw organs of their opponents, I don't put anything past these people. If there's a claim they beheaded their victims, there would be no reason for me to question its validity unless indisputable evidence could be presented to prove otherwise. It's far more crucial for US PR propaganda to try and curb these horrible realities in order to save face than it is for someone to try and make ISIS look more evil than they actually are (which is something I can't find any logical reason for).

Among Muslim terrorists, a head is a head, and you can blindfold it and paint the body the color of any opponent you like. They and their families obviously need to be genocided, not because they kill incredibly nominal, marginalized, and ineffective Christians, but because they'll kill anything if it helps their social standing.

And until such time as the genocide has come, it is idle to speak of Hail Mary evangelization attempts. Until Jonah preached destruction, Ninevah did not repent.

Yeah. I found a similar skeptical article here. As it says,

To verify the authenticity of some of the images accompanying these stories, we searched the dregs of the Internet for copies of the photos. If the photos showed up a year or two before the story, then obviously the image is not about that current news event but was scraped up by some hack not doing his or her research.

The images published on Catholic Online are a mix of images that cropped up a few days ago and others first published much earlier. An image of a crucifixion was first published in July. An image of a beheaded girl first showed up online a year ago. An image of a brutal murder of a woman first appeared in 2008 and is only now attributed to ISIL. Viewed together, the images amount to obscenity for the sake of click bait. It is war porn that degrades the women and children in the photos.
