  • Why it's DIFFERENT this time with Israel fighting Hamas

Surprisingly, even CNN thinks it's different this time.

Maybe the recent rise of ISIS in Iraq is waking people up, and making them realize that the Muslim Brotherhood and terrorist organizations like Hamas are really getting to be a problem. It's almost like the Arab world is willing to look the other way while Israel blows up Gaza.

(CNN) -- The conflict raging in Gaza is different this time.

While Hamas' rocket attacks and Israel's military actions may look familiar, they're taking place against a whole new backdrop.

"This is unprecedented in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict," says CNN's Ali Younes, an analyst who has covered the region for decades. "Most Arab states are actively supporting Israel against the Palestinians -- and not even shy about it or doing it discreetly."

It's a "joint Arab-Israeli war consisting of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia against other Arabs -- the Palestinians as represented by Hamas."

As the New York Times put it, "Arab leaders, viewing Hamas as worse than Israel, stay silent."

With this kind of encouragement and support one has to wonder why Israel isn't being more forceful...

What's next? Arab nations ask Israel to help them deal with ISIS?

By the way, just how many Islamic nations are there in the Middle East?

I think Israel knows that the only real weapon Hamas has is the pinko commie liberal media, and "dead babies on TV". Unfortunately for Hamas, with so many people have cell phone cameras, the liberal media is not the only way the word gets out.

              This could be interesting.

Well, the first point would be that Arab doesn't necessarily equate to Islam.

                Source: MuslimVoices.org

Although Islam is the predominate religion among Arabs, there are a number of Christians and Jews who are, in fact, Arab.

The term, Arab, is a tricky one. Like the “Hispanic” label here in the United States, the “Arab” label refers to peoples of myriad backgrounds. The “Arab” world stretches from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic.

As you can imagine, in a region that vast, there are a lot of differences. But, there are three signposts that help Arabs define themselves:

The first is genealogy – this means a person calling him or herself an Arab is descended from people who’ve lived there for decades or centuries.
The second is language – Arabs speak Arabic as their native tongue.
The third is political identity – the simple fact that someone is born in an Arab country and speaks Arabic makes them Arab.

Religion, in no way, comes into the definition of “Arab”.

Errm... Is there an Arab nation that isn't an Islamic nation?

There are definitely Arab people who are not Muslims, but.. .um.... um.....

France intended Lebanon to be a Christian Arab nation, but then the civil war happened and Lebanon became a puppet-state of Syria. And the Syrian/Lebanese Christians are fragmented into several independent groups, which doesn't help.

Yeah, I think I was coming at this backwards -- not all Muslims are Arabs, and not all Arabs are Muslims, but I'm having a hard time thinking of an Arab Country which is not Islamic.

Definitely most Muslims aren't Arabs, The countries with the largest Muslim populations aren't Arab. There are 209,000,000 Muslims in Indonesia followed by 176,000,000 in India, 167,000,000 in Pakistan, 133,000,000 in Bangladesh and 77,000,000 in Nigeria. None of these are Arab countries and they alone contain just under half the world's Muslims. Egypt, with just under 77,000,000 has the next largest Muslim population and it is very debatable whether they can be considered Arab.

I'm always still in trouble again
