If I'm reading it correctly, I think the emphasis is on the RATE is not increasing. The sea level is still very slowly rising...but the 2 mm rise per year seems to be holding steady. At 2mm per year, the sea will rise approx. 3.3 ft (or 1 meter) in 500 yearsLast edited by Littlejoe; 07-16-2014, 02:45 PM.

As discussed in detail below the latest mean sea level rise trend data from NOAA simply does not support IPCC assertions that mean sea level rise trends are increasing since 1971 [my emphasis].
Here is what is said by NOAA (to which you have linked) [brackets added]:
Records and research show that sea level has been steadily [my emphasis] rising at a rate of 0.04 to 0.1 inches per year since 1900.
This rate may [my emphasis] be increasing. Since 1992, new methods of satellite altimetry (the measurement of elevation or altitude) indicate a rate of rise of 0.12 inches per year.
This is a significantly larger rate than the sea-level rise averaged over the last several thousand years [my emphasis].
The contradiction is not between NOAA and "my favorite brain washer"; rather, the contradiction is between UN IPCC AR5 WGI, on the one hand; and, on the other hand, NOAA and my "favourite brain washer".
With regard to the uncertain ("may}) statement: "This rate may [my emphasis] be increasing. Since 1992, new methods of satellite altimetry (the measurement of elevation or altitude) indicate a rate of rise of 0.12 inches per year" ― any change from previous measurements may be attributable to the change in the "new methods of satellite altimetry".Last edited by John Reece; 07-16-2014, 11:22 AM.
