Coldest Antarctic June Ever Recorded

Antarctica continues to defy the global warming script, with a report from Meteo France, that June this year was the coldest Antarctic June ever recorded, at the French Antarctic Dumont d’Urville Station.

According to the press release, during June this year, the average temperature was -22.4c (-8.3F), 6.6c (11.9F) lower than normal. This is the coldest June ever recorded at the station, and almost the coldest monthly average ever – only September 1953 was colder, with a recorded average temperature of -23.5c (-10.3F).

John, I've noticed that you make a lot of topics about global warming and seem to have done some research into the issue. I'm surprised, then, that you do not understand that a key point of global warming is the warming of the planet as a trend and fluctuations are to be expected. In fact, weather patterns are supposed to get more chaotic. The issue was rebranded as climate change because of people not doing the most basic of research into what global warming is.

I saw "The Day After Tomorrow" too. There's a zillion ways to oversell a justification to give the government more money and power, and you're probably not going to do better than Jake Gyllenhaal on that front.

Unfortunately, that is the way it goes. Australians are quite used to experiencing a wetter than usual season in the middle of a prolonged drought. Farmers who don't learn the lesson wind up going broke.

Maybe the story about global warming is exaggerated, maybe even wrong - but I wouldn't be excited by reports of one or two colder than ever seasons. They are indeed to be expected.

The graph above is incorrect, with the 2006 temperature being fully 1 degree centigrade lower than the real temperature. It is also taken from one specific area, rather than being a global average. Likewise, the recorded temperatures in Antarctica are taken from 1 specific area, rather than reflecting a global average.

Note the graphs of Australian temperatures as compared with global averages. Until about 2000, temperatures in Australia weren't too far out of step with global averages. Where global averages rose, Australian averages rose - and the dips were more or less concurrent. Around 1980, the patterns started to separate. Since about 2000, the peaks and troughs have mostly reversed.

Not taken seriously might be a decent criteria - so long as it isn't reserved for an obviously biased segment. Not taken seriously by a bunch of guys with an agenda that is in opposition to you tells us absolutely nothing about the quality of the work.
