I doubt anyone would disagree that the president should have a mask even if they are in vanishingly short supply. He's not only the president but he also comes in close contact with the vice president and any number of high level government employees on a regular basis.

And now that masks are readily available why has he not clearly, publicly, and unequivocally recommended their use?

Has he not publicly advised wearing one? I'm not sure he hasn't, but even if he hasn't, to interpret that as "He isn't following the science" is a stretch. If he came out and said they aren't necessary then I'd give that to you.

Trump also publicly insisted that coronavirus was no worse than the flu despite that being contrary to the science he was aware of.

So those are two unassailable examples.

He was speaking to a crowd he had assembled who was practicing zero social distancing. The subtext to this joke is obvious.

Exactly. You pick a topic you know your opponent is weak on and drive it home to the point that voters immediately associate your opponent with that topic. Trump excels at this sort of messaging.
