The former has been a joke for years now, even well before Al Gore won it in 2007. The awarding of it to Henry Kissinger in 1973 and Yasser Arafat in 1994 led to the resignation of committee members. I mean they rejected Gandhi, the global symbol of non-violent struggle, something like five separate times.

But I suspect your complaint about the economics prize stems from their rejection of the bankrupt economic systems that you favor. Although I will agree that awarding it to Paul Krugman in 2008 was a joke and widely seen as one of the Nobel Prize's many deliberate pokes in the eye of George W. Bush since he was an outspoken critic of him, and not because of "his analysis of trade patterns and location of economic activity"[1]

      1. While it is arguable whether or not Gore's getting it was partly due to being a way to attack Bush, the same can not be said of Obama or even Jimmy Carter. While a case could be made for the latter being awarded the Peace Prize (unlike the other two), Gunnar Berge, head of the Nobel Prize committee, acknowledged that Carter's was at least in part meant as a criticism of Bush

Trump should tweet that he supports BLM and the Defunding the Police. Then sit back while the Democrats all of a sudden think BLM is a racist group and we need to give the police more funding.

            That would literally happen.

Honestly, if Trump becomes a US president to not enter the US into war, I believe he should be awarded a peace prize. That's a step forward.

Some might say he tried to start a war and simply failed at it. (I'm referring to the assassination of the Iranian leader via drone strike at a civilian international airport. Although, I guess I could have also been referring to Kushner foolishly giving the green light to the Saudis to invade Qatar and the US Secretary of State having to try desperately to un-green-light that.)

The two never-ending wars in Afghanistan and Iraq do seem to be enough for the US military industrial complex at the moment, and they appear to be relatively happy with Trump doing occasional surges there interspersed with occasional proclamations of 'mission accomplished', enough that there doesn't seem to be huge pressure on Trump to start additional wars.

And now Trump has received a second nomination for something that has been pretty much spiked by the MSM:

Source: Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for second time after Serbia-Kosovo deal

This second nomination occurred only three days after he was nominated for his major role in the Israel-UAE normalization agreement.

US President Donald Trump has received a second nomination for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for helping secure a deal to normalize economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo, Fox News reported on Saturday night.

The deal included Kosovo's recognition of Israel, and Serbia's agreement to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

Magnus Jacobsson, a member of the Swedish Parliament, submitted the nominations.

He announced on Friday that he was nominating the Trump administration along with Serbia and Kosovo “for their joint work for peace and economic development, through the cooperation agreement signed in the White House,” adding that "trade and communications are important building blocks for peace.”

“It took decades because you didn’t have anybody trying to get it done,” Trump said in the Oval Office, surrounded by Serbia President Aleksander Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti.

The Serbian president praised Trump and said he had done a “great job,” while Kosovo’s leader commended Trump’s “commitment to peace.”

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, with US assistance, following a genocidal war led by then-Serbian president Slobodan Milošević, which killed 10,000 Muslim ethnic Albanians.

In Washington, the Serbian president told reporters there were still many differences between his country and its former province of Kosovo, which declared independence in 2008, but said Friday’s agreement marked a huge step forward.

Trump also linked peace-making between Serbia and Kosovo with his efforts to normalize ties between Israel and its Arab neighbors.

“We’ve also made additional progress on reaching peace in the Middle East. I will say that Kosovo and Israel have agreed to normalization of ties and the establishment of diplomatic relations. The agreement we made with the UAE [and Israel] has been incredible,” Trump said.

He added: “We have other countries in the Middle East coming very much to us and saying, like, “When do we go? When can we sign?” I think we’re going to have great peace in the Middle East. And nobody has been able to say that for a long time,” he said.

This second nomination occurred only three days after he was nominated for his major role in reaching the peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and he may be expecting a third after announcing another breakthrough in the Middle East peace process, with Israel and the Kingdom of Bahrain establishing diplomatic ties.

The winner of the Peace Prize for 2021 – selected by a panel of five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is appointed by the parliament of Norway – will not be announced until October 2022.

Last year, Trump said he deserved to be awarded the Peace Prize for his work on North Korea and Syria, but he said he probably would never get the honor.

The Nobel Peace Prize is one of six Nobel Prize categories, alongside physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and economics.

The prize is awarded on December 10 every year, and the winner is announced on October 9. Thousands of people are eligible to nominate candidates for the prize, including members of parliaments and governments, university professors and past laureates.

Considering these are the same people who gave the Peace Prize to Gore and later Obama as a way of giving George W. Bush a Bronx cheer, I'd say Trump has about as much chance of being awarded it as the proverbial snowball in the land of double hockey sticks does of surviving that environment.

"Some" might. They might also say that up is down and black is white. That does not make it right.

The reality is the taking out Soleimani[1] was meant to deter Iran from continuing to escalate their attacks in Iraq. IOW, it was meant to slow or stop the expansion of hostilities.

                    1. And let us not forget that this guy led a group, the Quds Force, which has been designated a terrorist organization by not just the U.S. but by Canada, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Further, Soleimani himself was sanctioned by the United Nations as well as the European Union (EU) and was on U.S. terror watchlists.

A news article today made me think of this thread... Pew's latest polling shows US favorability at record lows amongst its allies.

                        - US favorability in the UK is the worst it's ever been (41%). It's also the worst its ever been in Canada (35%). It's equal-worst its ever been in France and Germany (31%, 26%). Obviously for only 1 in 4 people in an allied country to have a favourable view of your country, is pretty bad.
                        - People from all US allies surveyed ranked the US's coronavirus response the worst of any country they were asked about (China, and WHO included).
                        - Trump's own personal favorability was worst in Belgium, at 9%, and best in Japan at a measely 25%.
                        - "Ratings for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are overwhelmingly negative, although not as negative as those for Trump"
                        - In most allied countries, a majority said they didn't view the US as respecting its people's personal freedoms. (e.g. only 43% in the UK in 2018 viewed the US as free, compared to 75% in the UK in 2013)

America's allies trust Putin, and China, more than Trump. Let that sink in. Trump has utterly destroyed, to a literally-record-setting degree, the favorability toward America among US allies. So, good luck getting them to award him a Nobel prize - they're literally more likely to give it to Putin.

Which only informs me of irrational hate, at best.

So, some will irrationally support a devil China man who directly enslaves millions, directly kills millions, among a long list of atrocities.

Some men would even choose the Devil over the Lord of hosts.

And you want me to let that sink in. It's sunk, and it's clear, it tells me our "allies" should suffer for their irrational hate.

P.S. possibly worth noting that Trump supporter saying US allies should suffer probably won't endear Trump and his supporters to anyone in US allied nations who was on the fence. If you do actually want us to suffer then it becomes kinda difficult to even class you as an 'ally'.

IOW Obama did absolutely nothing whatsoever to deserve it other than not being Bush. And this is why the prize is a joke that typically results in an eye roll response when they say they're going to announce the winner.
