  • Someone sent a message out to all Democrat politicians who support this nonsense. His message:

Defund your security detail first, and then we can talk about defunding police departments.

In Alaska, they market pepper spray as "bear repellent", although I don't know how effective it would be at deterring a grizzly. Heard a story from a park ranger about a camper who took the term "repellent" a little too literally and sprayed his tent with it in order to keep the bears away. Except after the spray dried, it served as an enticement instead, and in the middle of the night, a curious bear bit the tent and the fellow's buttocks where he was pressed against the side. The bear took off running as soon as he screamed, so no lasting damage to anything but his pride.

      • After denigrating the police for months and defunding them, it seems crime is rising in Minneapolis and now they asking, "Where are the Police?"

With violent crime on the rise in Mpls., City Council asks: Where are the police?

The meeting was slated as a Minneapolis City Council study session on police reform.

But for much of the two-hour meeting, council members told police Chief Medaria Arradondo that their constituents are seeing and hearing street racing which sometimes results in crashes, brazen daylight carjackings, robberies, assaults and shootings. And they asked Arradondo what the department is doing about it.

"Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police’?” said Jamal Osman, newly elected council member of Ward 6. He said he's already been inundated with complaints from residents that calls for police aren’t being answered.

“That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen,” Osman said.

I must say, they have done hoisted themselves on their own petard.

Ok city folk, just keep voting these people in, and I'll continue to ignore your inner city violence.

Maybe the cops will as well. We all have our crosses to bear.

It's the difference between how leftist and rightist view people. Leftist tend to believe everyone is basically good and will behave themselves without an outside influence working on their life. The extreme version of this is "we have crime because the police exist. No police means no crime."

Rightist tend to view people as needing something to control their behavior. They recognize some people just aren't going to behave in a decent manner and there needs to be some way to control their behavior and if necessary take them out of society to protect society. The extreme here would be a very controlling body over individuals.

The correct answer is probably includes both sides.

                      • The Minneapolis city council, which unanimously supported a pledge to abolish the police, is now asking, “Where are the police?”

Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) reported that the city council met with Minneapolis’ head of police on Tuesday: “Just months after leading an effort that would have defunded the police department, City Council members at Tuesday’s work session pushed Chief Medaria Arradondo to tell them how the department is responding to the violence.”

Newly elected council member Jamal Osman said, “Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?’”

Osman added, “That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen.”

Council President Lisa Bender suggested police are intentionally not arresting people. She claimed, “This is not new, but it is very concerning in the current context.”

Arradondo did say over 100 officers have left the department this year, including those who have taken leave, and MPR notes that is “more than double the usual number of officers who either step down from the department or who are inactive each year.”

Fourth Ward council member Phillipe Cunningham expressed surprise that council members who had so recently supported doing away with the police department were now calling on the police to be doing more. He suggested the focus should instead be on using money taken from the police budget to hire “violence interrupters” and put them in place to prevent crime in the first place.

                        • So where are all the social workers they were going to get to replace the police with the money they took away from them?

Why can't they do their job?

I will vote for Otherist because libertarian is tainted.

I don't think people are basically good, people are basically not good, and have a measure of self control. The "good" ones are able to control themselves.

I don't believe people need controlled. Some may need patrolled, when it is clear they are not getting the message.

Even liberals want people to obey the laws we have. We can change them whenever we agree they need changed.

The problem is people using violence. Ain't nobody got time for that.

And the more Democrats dance around it, even promote it like Harris, the more people will not vote for them. The last part was a public service announcement.
