    Hmm.

he claims it's easier to get rich in scandinavia because of free education and unions pushing up the wages. But he never says how anyone actually gets rich.
The factual data he gives is the countries that have the greatest number of rich people, happen to be a bunch of countries famous for their strong social welfare systems, high tax rates, and semi-socialized economies.

He then speculates about possible causes. He might be 100% wrong in his speculation of how or why it works. But his factual data isn't wrong, and I've checked that elsewhere.

Instead he talks about how because of the unions almost every business is automated because they can't afford to hire employees at the high wages and how the company's artificially limit the wages on things like engineers who make about half of what they do in the USA.
His explanations for why there are more rich people in those countries might be wrong. Or your understanding of how economics works might be wrong. Or both.

So you end up with a huge swatch of people sitting on their butts collecting welfare checks.
The unemployment rate in the Scandinavian countries and others on his list, isn't particularly high. So, no, it doesn't appear you end up with massive numbers of people on welfare.

What does that have to do with anything? Are you arguing that these socialist policies wont work out in socialist states only?

There aren't more rich people in those countries. And they aren't socialist states either. wrong on all counts. They are overly taxed welfare states but still capitalist countries. That is why they still have money for their social programs. For a while anyway.

We are talking about socialism as a government and economy. Australia is neither.

I thought we were talking about a system where the government provides the basic necessities such as food, shelter, healthcare and education to those without.

Its like trying to hit a moving target, the definition of socialism changes from moment to moment. One moment socialism is any give-away, the next it is a political ideology.

What kind of "government housing?" Are you taking about homeless shelters? What we call "Section-8" housing (welfare)? and what kind of payments? Welfare?

Every country has some sort of welfare program. You were talking about everyone getting basic income, housing, and so on. The type of housing and payments people get on welfare is at a bare sustenance level. And it is limited here in the USA, if you don't find a job if you are able, it will go away. That is why there is so much welfare fraud in the USA, where people keep having children so they can stay on the dole, or claiming false disabilities. It's a big problem here.
