And we have the MSM and liberals trying to blame Trump for it (some are calling it Trumpovirus and the like) and even hoping it hurts the economy enough to adversely affect Trump's chances of being re-elected.

The big question is how badly will the China supply-shock hit the world. Can a global recession be prevented?

Your source for this fact? The CDC is only testing people who've been to China or who have been in direct contact with someone who has the virus. That makes containment an impossibility. Your coping is endangering lives.

The Washington Department of Health confirmed Saturday the first coronavirus-related death in Washington state, according to a press release.

Health officials said there are new King County cases in addition to the two new cases confirmed Friday evening.

The department is hosting a press conference at 1 p.m. to provide further details.

The CDC is entirely mishandling the situation, but that's because it's a classic disaster of a bureaucracy, not because it doesn't have enough money or enough people.

Um... have you not been following the thread? Here's my earlier posts:

On Tuesday, Breitbart News fact-checked “mostly false” claims by former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg during the Democrat debate in South Carolina. Bloomberg claimed that Trump had “fired” a pandemic specialist at the White House, and “defunded” the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The implication: Trump was to blame for the spread of coronavirus — even though there have been just over a dozen cases and no fatalities in the U.S.

The truth: the pandemic specialist had left voluntarily during a reorganization of the bloated National Security Council (NSC), and the CDC cuts — as the agency wound down its Ebola response — were only proposed, not enacted.

The AP confirmed Thursday, in an article titled “AP FACT CHECK: Democrats distort coronavirus readiness,” that much of what Democrats are saying about Trump’s response to the coronavirus challenge is simply not true...

They're selling the same distorted narrative as the Democrats. If you had bothered to actually read the Breitbart story, you world have noted that it was about the Associated Press independently verifying something that Breitbart had reported earlier.

Trump’s budgets have proposed cuts to public health, only to be overruled by Congress, where there’s strong bipartisan support for agencies such as the CDC and NIH. Instead, financing has increased.

Indeed, the money that government disease detectives first tapped to fight the latest outbreak was a congressional fund created for health emergencies.

Some public health experts say a bigger concern than White House budgets is the steady erosion of a CDC grant program for state and local public health emergency preparedness — the front lines in detecting and battling new disease. But that decline was set in motion by a congressional budget measure that predates Trump.

The broader point about there being “nobody here” to coordinate the response sells short what’s in place to handle an outbreak.

The public health system has a playbook to follow for pandemic preparation — regardless of who’s president or whether specific instructions are coming from the White House. Those plans were put into place in anticipation of another flu pandemic, but are designed to work for any respiratory-borne disease.

An editorial published Friday in the New England Journal of Medicine speculated that the coronavirus currently causing panic in world markets could turn out no worse than “a severe seasonal influenza” in terms of mortality.

Citing an analysis of the available data from the outbreak in China, the authors note that there have been zero cases among children younger than 15; and that the fatality rate is 2% at most, and could be “considerably less than 1%.”

Those who have died have been elderly or were already suffering from another illness — as with ordinary flu. The underlying data suggest that the symptoms varies, and fewer than one in six of the cases reported were “severe.”

The authors note that coronavirus looks to be much less severe than other recent outbreaks of respiratory illnesses:
"[T]he overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively."

The vast majority of patients recover, and among those who are hospitalized, the median stay thus far is 12 days.

Coronavirus, they note, does spread easily, and the average infected person has infected two other people. That means the U.S. should expect the illness to gain a “foothold.” But they note travel restrictions on China (imposed by President Donald Trump over the objections of some critics) “may have helped slow the spread of the virus.”

I've read other sources saying that the highest mortality has been among elderly Asian men who were heavy smokers. Now maybe all these sources are independently misleading us, or it's a coordinated conspiracy, but I find that unlikely.

The story mentions a woman in her 50s who contracted the virus and is recovering without treatment. I'm curious about the details of the person who died.

I don't care a whit about your irrelevant dispute about politics. In point of fact, the CDC neither has the ability nor the desire to contain this virus. And the "2% case fatality rate" is based on China's official numbers--which are crap--and only considering those aged 60 and above, it is closer to 10%. If .10% of that age group needed hospitalization, our hospitals will be overrun, increasing the fatality rate exponentially more. And most sources admit 20% of those infected require hospitalization. When millions of Americans are dying, will you still be calling it "just a bad flu"?

At 53 minutes, the director of the CDC tells people not to wear masks, not to stock up food or medicine and not to be concerned at all. It's criminal. And he and his team clearly find it amusing.

I'm not calling it anything. I'm just posting what's being reported by news and medical organizations.

But given your current level of apparent hysteria, could you be troubled to cite your sources instead of simply dismissing mine?

A true paranoid would have imagined that weeks ago there was hundreds if not thousands of undetected cases in the US, but people aren't dropping like flies.
