New England Journal of medicine says that the coronavirus may be no worse than a bad seasonal flu.

"[T]he overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively."

I've read other sources saying that the highest mortality has been among elderly Asian men who were heavy smokers. Now maybe all these sources are independently misleading us, or it's a coordinated conspiracy, but I find that unlikely.

And the "2% case fatality rate" is based on China's official numbers--which are crap--and only considering those aged 60 and above, it is closer to 10%. If .10% of that age group needed hospitalization, our hospitals will be overrun, increasing the fatality rate exponentially more. And most sources admit 20% of those infected require hospitalization. When millions of Americans are dying, will you still be calling it "just a bad flu"?

A true paranoid would have imagined that weeks ago there was hundreds if not thousands of undetected cases in the US, but people aren't dropping like flies.
