It is a dangerous game to exploit [economic anxiety] to win elections because there's always someone who takes it two or ten steps too far. I know many Republicans would condemn these statements but if we want to stop seeing things like this we have to also start condemning the Soros memes, birtherism (on all levels), jokes about Michelle Obama, Stephen Miller, and all similar exploitation of [economic anxiety].

Apparently, Jordan knows them will of G-d, and so is authoritative!

Is it about political opportunism, or are those ideas really part of the culture and the way people really think?

There are a large number of people that hold ideas like this just below the surface waiting for a time when they feel safe enough to say them out loud. Trump and the current GOP trend have provided that environment.

I'm not even sure why anti-Semites would see a champion in Donald Trump who has Jewish family members and is one of the strongest supporters of Israel to sit in the Oval Office in decades.

She should be removed from office, immediately.

You dont see because you choose not to.

Trump has given voice to these groups. Whether trump holds all the same ideals they do is irrelavent. Trumps own racism, his anti immigration rhetoric, his comments on charlottesville, his comments on Haiti, his handling of Puerto Rico, could go on and on. His deference to demagogues, his anti media rhetoric, even his hate filled tweets containing personal attacks on peopke, even private citizens, his refusal to distance himself quickly from David Duke. All this has emboldened these people and created that environment where they feel they can Express what they have kept below the surface with some safety, that there are sympathetic ears out there.

The alt right nutbars jumped on the Trump bandwagon early on, 2015. That was when many Republicans still thought his run for office was another chapter in the life of the reality TV star. Some of the support was cultivated, such as Bannon and Spencer some of it was not directly cultivated.

Trump has been accused of ties to the alt right from the beginning, which is why his comments after Charlottesville surprised me. I would have though he or his staff would have something prepared that would be symbolic yet widely accepted.

You're right, racism and anti-Semitism were never a problem in America until Trump was elected.

And I'm not going to go through your laundry list of whoppers, but I will zero in one in particular, because it's a lie I've called you on before. You claim that Trump "[refused] to distance himself quickly from David Duke". Here's a response to that from over a year ago:

Sounds like she has been paying attention in church. How many of the ideas are heard in church, read about, found on the net?

How far from the mainstream is she?

Indeed. If she's not, it will tell you a lot about the current trend in the GOP.

I dont know where you get these rewrites of history, you seem to think I wasn't alive then. There were two days at least of news on the endorsement of David Duke where he did not refuse it. He even claimed at one point not to know who david Duke was. Disinformation is something you do well MM.

Where do you get that idea? Your ideas have been rather more antagonistic toward Christianity than not lately. What's with that?

While I don't see that Trump actively cultivated support, as the NR implies, but I think it accurate that Trump's unwillingness to distance himself until he is cornered is telling.

But Trump is one individual, while conservatism is a collective of sorts. Has the conservative movement tried to,distance itself from the extreme right? I don't think so, as the NR article points out.

The conservative movement has a lot of Christians, so it could be asked if those objectionable views really objectionable to many Christian conservatives?

Let's take a look at some of the ideas in the controversial Facebook post:

                              -"Jew in make only"

-going against the Lord's will for opposing Trump

-as in the times of the Old Testament.

Why on earth would any Christian have a problem with those ideas? Maybe those ideas do represent the true faith, in which case I am guilty of attacking christianity
