  • Time to withdraw?

    https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/joe-...draw-from-iraq

Should we withdraw from Iraq to lessen the probability of an Iranian retaliation? If we do, then one result was to give Iran one of it goals that it wanted - America out of Iraq.

Should we stay? Public support for the war is fading, and support will probably fade faster if the body count spikes up. One possibility is to turn the military mission over to private contractors and withdraw the military.

The US should have withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan long ago. Those wars are now so old that a baby born after they started could be recruited to fight in them. The US public wants out, and has for a long time.

But yes, the poorly judged attack on Iran only heightens the importance of rapid withdrawal. Iran will be looking for retaliation, and rightly so - if Iran had assassinated Mike Pompeo, the US would be doing the same. If America publicly says sorry and withdraws from the region there is every chance the Iranians can be appeased and the escalation to war averted.

Iran is 4 times the size of Iraq. The war in Iraq killed almost 5,000 American soldiers and wounded 32,000. Only an extremely callous and psychopathic person who cared nothing for American lives would start another war likely to kill many times that number.

Not to mention hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians.

First, I do not want a war. Second we would not invade Iran. We would simply destroy their infrastructure and oil producing abilities by air...

How about the innocent Iraqi civilians that will be killed after ISIS reconstitutes (which they are doing now), never mind tens of thousands of new refuges that Europe has no desire to take in. There are no good options.

Absolutely, so those would be targeted first, if they're not being targeted already.

There are no good options, we can agree on that, but I don't see war as the better option, unless there are allies of the US under immediate threat of attack. Then it would be right and good to engage in war to protect them. At the very least the action that is going to be taken, has to be proportional to unintentional evil caused by it, otherwise it's in vain.

                    Case in point:

Source: Iran' launches cyber-attack on US government website warning 'we're always ready

Hackers who claim to be working for the Iranian government have hacked a US government website in a "revenge" attack.

In a brutal take-down of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) the hackers warned this first move was “only a small part of Iran’s cyber ability”.

The hackers posted: "This is message from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“We will not stop supporting our friends in the regions, the oppressed people of Palestine, the oppressed people of Yemen, the people, and the Syrian government, the people and government of Iraq, the oppressed people of Bahrain, the true mujahideen resistance in Lebanon and Palestine.

“They will be supported by us.”

Images of a photoshop Donald Trump appearing to be bloodied by a punch to the face, the Iranian flag and the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei were also posted onto the page.

Yep. Seems like US forces are getting the boot from Iraq.

Iraqi Parliament Votes to Expel All American Troops and Submit UN Complaint Against US for Violation of Sovereignty. "What happened was a political assassination. Iraq cannot accept this."

Iraq's parliament voted in an extraordinary session Sunday to expel all American troops from the country and file a United Nations complaint against the U.S. for violating Iraq's sovereignty with its assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.

Ahead of the vote, chants of "No, no, America" rang out inside the hall.

Remember the days when the right-wing propaganda claimed US forces would be 'greeted as liberators'?

Iraq called on the U.N. Security Council to condemn the bombing and assassinations... the Iraqi parliament approved a five-point action plan that would require the Iraqi government to end the presence of foreign troops in the country, and withdraw its request for assistance from the anti-ISIS global coalition. Parliament also called on the government to ban the use of Iraqi airspace by any foreign power

In his speech prior to the vote, the Iraqi Prime Minister recommended "ending the existence of [US] forces [on Iraqi soil] immediately and start the immediate arrangements for this". The Iraqi PM also said "I was supposed to meet Soleimani in the morning of the day he was killed, he came to deliver me a message from Iran responding to the message we delivered from Saudi to Iran".

The fact is Star killing Soleimani was a moral good. And when the US leaves Iraq it will become a more bloody place. In any case we need to get out.

As I said before, you have no moral compass at all. Your lust for killing also incompatible with any meaningful definition of Christianity.

This assassination could lead to the deaths of 20,000 American troops or more (if the Iraq war is any measure), strikes at US civilians at home and abroad. Their blood will be on Trump's hands, and people like you who supported this insane action that will predictably lead to those deaths.
