Er, I'm not at all sure (UK constitution being as inscrutable as ever) but I think Johnson may have just screwed over parliament but royally. If I understood the amendment correctly, parliament may have just stuck itself with May's deal. If so, Johnson gets his exit, with deal, and rids his party of a lot of dead weight. Then gets the election he seems to want, with the brexit party sidelined.

The government has said a bill to stop a no-deal Brexit will complete its passage through the Lords on Friday.
The proposed legislation was passed by MPs on Wednesday, inflicting a defeat on Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
There were claims pro-Brexit peers could deliberately hold up the bill so it could not get royal assent before Parliament is prorogued next week.
But the Conservative chief whip in the Lords announced a breakthrough in the early hours after talks with Labour.
All aimed at preventing a no-deal Brexit.

    Buried in the Time article:

The agency estimates it receives about 1,000 deferred action requests per year that are related neither to the military nor to DACA. Most of them cite medical or financial hardships, the agency said.

Going forward, applicants will be able to seek deportation deferrals from a different agency, Immigration Customs and Enforcement, according to the spokeswoman.

I quite agree the referendum was a bad plan (never ask questions if you can't deal with the answer) but politically, they are stuck with it.

I doubt the new government will be remainer - at least one commenter (seems to be remainer) thinks Johnson is actually maneuvering for an election. Risky, but it makes sense.

Dunno, I'm just here for the popcorn.

That sounds like a system ripe for abuse.

Again, because they don't care about what the people voted on. Brexit won. They need to deal with it and represent their constituents.

Meanwhile, realTrump is targeting sick and dying children for deportation.
    Leftist lies and distortions.

GOP are quite relaxed about all that fascist manoeuvring.
