And let's not forget (like MSNBC host Katy Tur who denied it ever happened) how Obama himself was caught on a hot mic as he leaned over to Dmitri Medvedev and told him to let Putin know that he'd have more flexibility to give Putin what he wanted after being re-elected. Imagine the howls of outrage if Trump ever did that.

You are being ridiculous. Trump lies constantly. He lied about knowing about the payoffs before they happened when we have a tape of him discussing the payoff before it happened! There is EVERY reason to believe Trump is lying about every bit of trouble he's in right now. ANYTHING that he's in fact guilty of, he is in fact lying about right now. That is a given. And frankly, the more he declares about some element of the saga, the more likely it is that is something he's guilty of and he's lying about it. It is so bad, in fact, that on any given day we can expect more lies out of Trump than we can statements of truth. So bad, in fact, that some one saying "Trump told a lie" is passe, blase, please tell me something I didn't already know.

The fact we have two grants of immunity to critical players in this whole reality show presidency should be a clue there are a lot more of Trumps lies about to have a light shone on them, and a lot more lies for Trump to tell.

Not that it makes any difference to those who see any and all people that are not Trump supporters as radically left wing conspirators just waiting to rid the world of any and all things even remotely good

How quickly do you think the Supreme Court would overturn an impeachment without evidence of a crime?

The point is rather obvious MM, and its a technicality. The president would be guilty of a crime, but he would not have yet been formally charged and tried (that would come after the impeachment). But it does point out the contradiction between the statements surrounding impeachment and the current conclusion a sitting president can't be indicted. I think therein lies the flaw in the current thinking about indictment.

So - either the evaluation of 'crimes and misdemeanors' can be made independent of an actual, formal indictment, or a sitting president can in fact be indicted - or (and this could not possibly be a correct interpretation) impeachment can't be done.

So eliminating the option impeachment is without possibility, either it is possible for Congress to determine the President has committed a crime, even though he has not been indicted, or it is possible to indict a sitting president and try him so as to formally determine he has committed a crime.

I would expect given the current ideas about indictment, most in power lean to the former, but that produces for the technicality the article is addressing.

Trump's own lawyer accused him in a sketchy plea deal that will conveniently never be tested in court, for something which not even the FEC says is a crime, and for which Cohen's own lawyer says there is no corroborating evidence and that it's Cohen's word against Trump's. Let that sink in.
