As I understand it, the "mandatory minimum sentencing" requirements for non-violent drug offenders has been relaxed. But this only applies to NEW cases. Those arrested PREVIOUSLY, and were sentenced to "mandatory minimum" sentences, are not affected. Therefore, Obama has instructed Eric holder to seek out such candidates for clemency who have already served "reasonable" time (my own interpretation) and release them.
Further, I understand a lot of judges LIKE this, because they OFTEN would have given "lesser sentences" if they were not required to go "mandatory minimum".
Could Obama actually be doing something RIGHT?
