  • Masculinity: A Mental Health Issue

I guess they want us all to be girls....

University of Texas to treat masculinity as a 'mental health issue'

The program is predicated on a critique of so-called “restrictive masculinity.” Men, the program argues, suffer when they are told to “act like a man” or when they are encouraged to fulfill traditional gender roles, such as being “successful” or “the breadwinner.

Though you might enjoy “taking care of people” or being “active,” MasculinUTwarns that many of these attributes are actually dangerous, claiming that “traditional ideas of masculinity place men into rigid (or restrictive) boxes [which]... prevent them from developing their emotional maturity.”

“If you are a male student at UT reading this right now, we hope that learning about this helps you not to feel guilty about having participated in these definitions of masculinity, and instead feel empowered to break the cycle!” the program offers.

I have been surprised in my observations of America how much fear there seems to be among many conservative men about not being "beta males". There seems to be a sort of fear that they are not truly men unless they are "real men" and a sense that their masculinity is really fragile. That's always struck me as being psychologically really weird.

People from Alex Jones to Jordan Peterson seem to have a tendency to cry (literally) about masculinity, and fear-monger about a lack of masculinity.

I have a tendency to stare at such idiots' videos when I am exposed to them with a "Edited by a Moderator are you on about?" expression, as the culture in my country is if you are born a man then you're a man (unless transgender of course), and you can't "lose masculinity" or be a "beta male" or any-such nonsense and people don't have a fear of being insufficiently manly. So it makes me wonder about the weirdness of the American psychology that causes their message to find an audience there. So I would tend to say that this university is right on the money and have spotted the weird and toxic ideas about masculinity in the US that are wrongly causing men to worry about masculinity as they believe it's something they do rather than simply something they are.

You don't have to "be masculine" to be a man, you just have to literally be a man, and that's it. Do as you please, you're still a man.

When you are called toxic for agreeing with ideas about what men are to do it is emasculating. Why am I called poisonous for wanting to provide for loved ones for instance? Or for enjoying games in which overcoming adversity is an integral part be the adversity physical or mental.

Real men do what they enjoy doing and don't care what others think.

My wife makes a wonderful bacon/egg/cheese quiche with bell peppers, and even sometimes Jalapeño - and she uses crispy bacon like we used to get before the war.

I recently discovered that "shaving" and "really quick" don't belong in the same sentence.

My father was the strongest man I've ever met. Not physically, but in the way he provided and cared for my mother and 6 children. He embodied the man of scripture, loving God, caring for his family.

And a softer heart in a man I have never seen. He used to weep when people won prizes on game shows, and he wept at each daughter's wedding (like Tevya, he had 5 daughters!).

One year, my children might have been 8 and 5 or so, and Grandma and Grandpa were visiting us at the time of Dad's birthday. So we made a cake. My kids were into Care Bears (the originals) and we rented a bear-shaped cake pan.

Because my children decided that Grandpa's cake should portray what they saw in him.

                          Tenderheart Bear.

The perception of masculinity in the UT premise is skewed, as is that of the world outside of Christianity. Just look at Jesus if you want to see what a real man is like.

It's just part of the left's new obsession with gender confusion.
