Dick’s ends sales of assault-style rifles in stores

    A) They have a right to do so
    2) At least they're calling them "assault style" rifles.
"Neighbor, how long has it been since you’ve had a big, thick, steaming bowl of Wolf Brand Chili?”

    This kind of irks me:

The decision to overhaul its own rules on gun sales, and the emphatic words from Stack, put the company out front in a falling out between corporate America and groups like the National Rifle Association. Several major U.S. corporations including MetLife, Hertz and Delta Airlines cut ties with the NRA in the days following the Parkland shooting, but none were retailers that sold guns.

Why even mention the NRA? And why blame the NRA? They encourage responsible gun ownership and give out classes on how to use them safely. They are not responsible for any of the misuses of guns. As far as I know not one of the mass shooters were members of the NRA.

But yeah Dick's can sell or not sell anything they want.

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Because decades ago the gun manufacturers took over the NRA and it went from being primarily a hobbyist group that did the things you describe to primarily being a PR/lobbyist front group for the gun manufacturers that bribes politicians, and puts out propaganda to mislead the gullible.

You don't have a clue Starlight. Another example of you thinking you understand the USA better than the people who live here.

It's sad you don't know so much about your own country and even sadder how upset you get when foreigners point out your ignorance.

Try reading some history articles on the NRA, and then you can apologize to me.

Trying supporting your post with an actual citation, or leave the thread. It would be preferable if the citation came from a source other than "WeHateGuns.org".

Actually Dick's stopped selling "assault-style rifles" right after Sandy Hook. This is nothing more than a shameless publicity stunt.

And "assault-style" is like saying that your car is "NASCAR-style" racing car.

Did they also change the age for purchasing handguns to 21 at that same time?

Here in Georgia the Lt. Gov. is now blocking a lucrative tax exemption that Delta gets on jet fuel (worth between $40 to 50 million) over Delta's decision to stop offering discounts to NRA members.

I'm of two minds over this.

On the one hand, it is nice to see conservatives finally fighting back and employing the same sort of tactics that liberals have used for decades rather than simply rolling over.

On the other hand, conservatives and libertarians should not be using the power of government to force businesses to do what they want. If you don't like what they are doing, don't fly on Delta.

Then it's time these fossils be relegated to the annals of history.

They apparently pulled this same stunt after Sandy Hook but continued selling rifles in their subsidiary Field & Steam stores (in many locations, the two stores are literally connected; you can walk from Dick's directly into Field & Stream).

Ernst Stavropol Blofield sums it up nicely in comments section:

“One must admit that the store is appropriately named...”

A Republican legislator, and soon-to-be primary opponent to the Lt. Gov. if I'm remembering correctly, speaking to NPR yesterday, claimed it was an opportunistic switch in the face of the fact that the tax break he was whipping half an hour before changing his stance was going nowhere. Can't find a transcript of the show, but there's this, cribbing from AP.
Sen. Michael Williams, another Republican candidate for governor who had opposed the Delta tax cut before the NRA controversy, praised Cagle's statement, saying his political rival 'is feeling the pressure that we are putting on him.' He applauded Cagle for listening to what he says is the 'vast majority' of Republican senators who now want to quash the proposed jet fuel tax cut."
