      It certainly sounds shady. I missed that part of the article. I can see where he might have hesitated to come forward if he were likely to lose clients as a consequence.

        That'd also suggest he may have been constrained by the laws regarding client confidentiality.

          Not likely. confidentiality only covers an attorney client relationship in the confines of a case. If a client asks the lawyer to do something illegal, especially unrelated to a case, the lawyer has an ethical responsibility to report it. Offering a lawyer a bribe would probably fall under needing to report it.
