Apparently fbi knew some potential attack at the base was imminent just prior to this event...

Either that's one heck of a coincidence, or that's one of the biggest bungles by the fbi since the Boston bombing.

I woke up this morning with the TV on - at first I thought it was a retrospective - then I began to wonder if time loops aren't possible after all - then I woke up fully.

I liked my first option best.

The article doesn't say that an attack was planned at Fort Hood, rather, that the alleged attack would have been inspired by what had previously happened there. Also, this isn't the same guy who was the gunman yesterday.

Never said it was the same guy.

No, you didn't. And I meant to add more to the OP, citing that very factor -- that there WAS suspicion already that something was going to happen, and EVEN THOUGH it was not the same guy, it would have seemed that they would have been on a higher alert.

I think, however, that the FBI believed that the suspect subject -- which WOULD have been a terrorist action -- was dealt with or being dealt with.

Well, the media now has another white Hispanic to kick around:

              Telling quotes:

"There is no record that Lopez saw combat or was injured during a four-month deployment in 2011 to Iraq, where he was a truck driver, military officials said. At that time, American forces were withdrawing from Iraq.

Records show no combat citations or ribbons, the officials said."

"They said there was also no medical confirmation the Lopez suffered a traumatic brain injury. Milley said that the soldier “self-reported” a brain injury."

"He joined the island National Guard in 1999 and went on a peace and security mission to Egypt in the mid-2000s, a guard spokeswoman told The Associated Press."

"Lopez joined the Army National Guard in Puerto Rico in 1999 and entered active duty in the Army in April 2010, according to military records. He was promoted to specialist from private first class six months later."

"community members “feel satisfied that we helped create an excellent human being,” but surmised Lopez's issues started after he left Puerto Rico."

"Lopez was a rifleman with the 1st Armored. But in December, he was reclassified as a motor transport operator, and in February he arrive at Fort Hood — with the 49th Transportation Movement Control Battalion, not the infantry."

Ten years without a promotion? Getting busted down to truck driver after being an infantryman? Realizing that all the money and bennies that used to fuel the war you were making your living on was gone, gone, gone? Living in a foreign country?

Sounds like just another case of Immigrant Mass Murder Syndrome, which was around way before Islamic terrorism in the US was a big thing:

Immigrants commit mass murder either from total alienation, like the Virginia Tech and Binghamton killings; or as workplace violence, part of the price of cheap labor. And, especially distressing, there are 12 cases in the list below where an immigrant killed or tried to kill their whole family. We've been referring to this as "Familicide". Some of these were fairly large families by American standards. The defense frequently claims that it was the strain of living in America that caused the murders. If so, it's a reason some of these immigrants should have stayed home.
