With an ice storm in the forecast, an old lady called the police and told them she had a hole in her roof and nobody to repair it. A sergeant came over and fixed it himself.

"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Firefighters are heroes. When do they get their own comics and movies?

Oh! A more recent story of a fire rescue! Okay, fires aren't good, but rescuing people from the fire is good!

No-one stole Neville's fritz (summer sausage).
Slugger didn't wing-slap anyone in the face.

Neville - mud-lark - usually loses his fritz to carrier pigeons. Slugger - crested pigeon (Australian native) - usually brawls with carrier pigeons for their food. 2/3 their size and normally wins the brawl if there aren't more than three against him.
