  • Pro Palestinian protest Forces DNC evacuation

Police evacuated the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., after a pro-Palestinian protest erupted in front of the building on Wednesday evening.

Members of the progressive groups IfNotNow, Jewish Voice for Peace Action and the Democratic Socialists of America gathered with others outside the headquarters for a vigil calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, which has raged for more than a month.

The U.S. Capitol Police said on X (formerly Twitter) that a crowd of approximately 150 people were “illegally and violently protesting” in front of the headquarters on Wednesday. Officers evacuated members of the DNC from the building.

Why were they forced to abandon a building because of what I'm sure was nothing but a "mostly peaceful" protest was taking place?

I'm always still in trouble again

David Weigel, a seasoned politics reporter, happened to be at the DNC protest last night. He is both a source of video from the altercation with Capitol Police and a confirmation that a number of allegations (e.g., protestors attempted to enter the building) are wrong. From video evidence, it appears that Capitol Police initiated the violent altercations, including using pepper spray on standing protestors.

Because the building entrances and exits were being blocked and Capitol Police isn't messing around with that after the Jan. 6 riot.

It's amazing the friction this issue is causing, even within the political parties. On social media it's the wild west, with YT influencers (some of whom are in the same political party) viciously attacking each other over this issue.

Could be the downfall of the Democratic party, or at least cost them the next election. The DNC leaders in government are mostly pro Israel. As are most older democrats. The younger liberals, especially college ate seem to be anti-Israel. That could be enough votes to cost the dems the election next year. Even if they just decide not to vote rather than vote for whoever the GOP candidates are.

Old Joe is facing a daunting challenge. He needs to appease the All Jews Must Die wing of his party while still supporting Israel.

It's happening on both political sides (like I said, it's wild west on social media), though clearly not as politically significant as on the left.

From a theological perspective it's interesting how the entire world is so focused on this conflict, how every world leader seems to have an impassioned take on it, and how emotions are flaring in between political tribes about it.

The Hebrew/Jewish people have been at the center of controversy and conflict since Abraham.

But I think Conservatives are a lot more united on support of Israel than Liberals are.

It's more like you have pro-Israel extremists on the right with others on the right that are bit more neutral and not as extreme in their views one way or the other. Whereas on the left you really only have two factions -- those who are extreme pro-Israel and those who are extreme pro-Palestinian, and the two sides are directly opposed to one another.

So far, I think this is the only area in which I've been pleased with my Senator Uncle Festerman.
