How would moving from governor to VP be a downgrade? Newsom is still young, and so I see it as one step towards the ultimate goal.

Yup. He already has "governor" on his resume, and then he would be able to add "vice president" to it.

It was what Hillary was attempting to do when she carpetbagged her way to New York and ran for senator. All she had on her resume was "wife of president" and that wasn't enough. Turns out nothing would have been enough in her case.

Who do you think would be the nominees for the parties.

For the Democrats, I'm going with Harris-Buttigieg. Since the Democrats are stuck in seeing everything through a race or LGBTQ+ lens, that's where they end up.
You seem ignorant of the fact that it is the Republicans, similar to their anti-woke agenda, that are obsessed with race and LGBTQ issues. Democrats merely push back in defense of human rights. But

If not Biden there are a number of democrats who could and would happily continue with the Biden Administration's agenda. Bernie Sanders comes to mind, but of course republicans would make an issue of his age as well. So you have Elizabeth Warren, Buttigieg, Newsom, et al. My personal choice would be the bane of republicans, Elisabeth Warren.

The Republicans are harder to guess. I think DeSantis is done. My personal favorite at this point is a Haley and Scott ticket. Not sure it matters to me who's the Presidential and who's the Vice-President.
As for who could best replace Donald Trump, Donald Duck comes to mind. The group now running, with the possible exception of Chris Christie are all to cowardly to even defend democracy and take on the authoritarian anti-democracy ex-president. So if I were a republican, perish the thought, I'd think Christie would be their best bet.

Which gives the interesting result that for the first time in US history, a straight, white male isn't on either ticket.
First time for republicans that is. Which doesn't bode well since the GOP is an old white male majority party and probably, in my opinion won't be to enthused or motivated to go out and vote for a woman or a black man.

In what universe is Pocahontas Warren "the bane of Republicans"?

Well I'm sure the Maga crowd, the White Nationalists, the Neo-nazis, you know the basket of deplorables as well as many of the normal Republicans would still vote for Trump, the latter while holding their noses. But Warren would tear Trump apart and would without hesitation expose him for the lying, corrupt and anti-democracy fascist that he is in the debate i.e. if he didn't chicken out of the debates like he's doing now in the republican primaries. Trump is afraid to defend his record against his own cowardly calculating republican colleagues.

In other news, Gavin Newsom epically trolls DeSantis about their upcoming debate, asking why Ron is bothering to debate someone who isn't even running for president.

You're ignoring his ego. Governor of California is a pretty powerful job. It's probably not too far down in power from POTUS. To go from a power wielding position to sit in your office with little to do, doesn't make sense.

Also, take a look at the track record of vice-presidents that became president. Being VP doesn't seem to provide the lift to Presidency that you might think. In recent years, it seems being a governor to POTUS is the more frequent path.

Is that her new native American name? Elizabeth "bane-of-republicans" Warren?

That's your pick? A fraudster to run against Trump the fraudster?

It is my pick, and to compare her to Trump who is not only a crook, but a constant and blatant liar, is just ridiculous. You I believe are a conservative so I wouldn't expect you to like Warren, but she is far from a fraud and in no wY comparable to Trump.

"Elisabeth Warren" is her colonizer's name, her real name is Fauxcahontas. You should be more culturally sensitive.

No, I am a libertarian, not a conservative. I find conservatives as repellant as I do people like you on the left.

Warren is a constant and blatant liar who lied about her ancestry in order to abuse that and get benefits in her schooling. And she continued to lie up through when her bluff got called and she want and took a DNA test at Trumps goading, which showe her life of lies for what it was.
