For years he was a supporter of various liberal causes, but during the lockdown he became a skeptic regarding the policies which got him labelled a right wing science denier.
So, he's something of an enigma, like RFK Jr. Difficult to categorize by traditional standards.

Still, it is scary to see government officials contacting private corporations and seeking to cripple a person's livelihood. I mean, I wouldn't put it past Castro Jr, though. The US version of that is the White House contacting news organizations and setting their criteria for them.

    What a world.

This is becoming a thoroughly Leftist strategy to starve and silence their opponents. I bet they are all salivating for the Orwellian future where they can just have them shot.

So why would your government go after Brand before there were any actual charges or convictions?

To be fair, I think his meaning was "nether" lands in the sense of being an insult about NZ being in outlying distant nether-regions of the globe and therefore not mattering.

We can, of course, speculate about whether as a US right winger he's likely to know enough geography vs not, to be aware that the Netherlands is itself a country. But I guess you could be right that his level of ignorance might be such that he thought NZ was part of the Netherlands, as opposed to on the opposite side of the world from it and not politically connected to it.

We can't be too harsh on US right wingers as their level of ignorance and indoctrination is not their own fault... there's a fair chance this was the map on the wall of their kindergarten, which may have been the highest level their education reached.

If you're referring to any of my posts: "netherlands" with a small 'n', and what your Commonwealth considers right and left wing doesn't translate to the US.

You can think that if you like. However it's not the US left who's made allegations against him, nor the US left who's sending the letter asking social media to demonetize him. The allegations against him were dug up by two Murdoch-owned outlets, on the UK right. And it's a UK conservative party politician who's asking he be demonetized.

In Britain, I don't know what he did to aggravate their deep state.
Someone directly elected by the populace like a member of parliament who wrote the letter, or a congressperson, is not the 'deep state'.

    Far less than the Left.
Total tripe. The Right is, and always has been, vastly more into cancelling people than the left ever has. The left's best efforts on the subject look like child's play compared to things the right wing has done.

Demonetization seems like it should at least wait until he's actually found guilty, and probably not even then. If he's guilty of sex crimes, it's the government / judicial system's job to punish him, not social media companies.

What you consider right-wing out in the netherlands is Leftist in the US. From what I am now reading about Dinenage, she is a supporter of big government; "free" childcare, and regulations ("That is why, from April this year, we are requiring all employers with more than 250 staff to publish those gender pay gap figures.") and pork (Following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the UK, Dinenage helped secure the 2 billion Culture Recovery Fund). She would hardly be considered conservative in this country.

Welcome to the world of "Consequence Culture" and #metoo. Accusations are enough for the Mob, and the accused has no rights before them. The disturbing part is the government trying to outsource to the mob.
