UK Parliament sends letters to social media platforms demanding demonetization of Russell Brand

The UK Parliament has sent letters to TikTok and Rumble expressing concerns that comedian Russel Brand could be profiting off the platforms.

"I am writing concerning the serious allegations regarding Russell Brand, in the context as a user of TikTok with more than 2.2 million followers on the platform," the letter to Theo Bertram, TikTok Director of Government Relations, Europe, began.

The following day after TikTok was sent the letter, Rumble received a similar letter from Dinenage, noting Brand’s 1.4 million followers on the platform, and asking whether Rumble "intends to join YouTube in suspending Mr. Brand’s ability to earn money on the platform."

I don't know anything at all about Brand; I am familiar with his name but that's about all. However, I can tell from the Dinenage letter and Rumble's response that he must be a conservative, or at least a critic of one or more sacred-cow Leftist causes.

I haven't heard anything past the headlines - that Russell Brand is being credible accused, by multiple women, of serious crimes. But it strikes me as really strange to demonetize his social media accounts as a result.

Demonetization seems like it should at least wait until he's actually found guilty, and probably not even then. If he's guilty of sex crimes, it's the government / judicial system's job to punish him, not social media companies.

What you consider right-wing out in the netherlands is Leftist in the US. From what I am now reading about Dinenage, she is a supporter of big government; "free" childcare, and regulations ("That is why, from April this year, we are requiring all employers with more than 250 staff to publish those gender pay gap figures.") and pork (Following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the UK, Dinenage helped secure the £2 billion Culture Recovery Fund). She would hardly be considered conservative in this country.

What I am reading about Brand, he is (now) conservative and a Trump supporter. That alone is reason enough for the Left to want to silence him. In Britain, I don't know what he did to aggravate their deep state.

You can think that if you like. However it's not the US left who's made allegations against him, nor the US left who's sending the letter asking social media to demonetize him. The allegations against him were dug up by two Murdoch-owned outlets, on the UK right. And it's a UK conservative party politician who's asking he be demonetized.

In Britain, I don't know what he did to aggravate their deep state.

Someone directly elected by the populace like a member of parliament who wrote the letter, or a congressperson, is not the 'deep state'.
