  • The scandal of pretending to be another race

    Source: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/raquel-evita-saraswati-rachel-dolezal-and-the-scandal-of-pretending-to-be-another-race/ar-AA188ymP?ocid=mailsignout&pc=U591&cvid=bf3d3e08d8fd4751b7f2379061680cf8&ei=20

A diversity activist allegedly lied about her race and has in turn left her post at a social justice organization – leaving a scandal in her wake.

Raquel Evita Saraswati, the chief equity, inclusion, and culture officer of social justice organization American Friends Service Committee, claimed to be a woman of color of Latina, South Asian and Arab descent, but her mother told The Intercept she is not. This followed an open letter from her peers questioning her background.

Saraswati is not the first to make headlines for this behavior (see Oli London and others). The most visible person in recent years to fake their race was Rachel Dolezal, the former president of the Spokane, Washington, branch of the NAACP who claimed to be Black but is in fact white.

Lying about one's racial or ethnic identity is tricky to unpack without clear motives, but anyone masquerading as another race or ethnic group should understand their actions could be harmful to the communities in question.

When someone dons a culture's lived experience as a costume identity, they do not celebrate that culture – they discredit it, experts say.

The term "transracial" has been associated with adoption, as when parents adopt a child of a different race. But in the context of people like Dolezal, whether "transracial" identity applies depends on who you ask.

And the rest of the article continues to spin the same nonsense. It's like they intentionally bend over backwards to placate the trans crowd while simultaneously admitting that you aren't what you identify as no matter the reason you identify as that.

Yup. If you can be whatever gender you want to identify as, then why not any race you want to identify as? Skin shade is a lot less relevant than gender.

I don't get it, if minorities have it so bad in this country why do so many pretend to be one???

Perhaps, but it is more likely that they believe that being a minority would give them an advantage. The victim class always has an advantage...

It puts to bed the "X is a social construct" argument for Identity....

Not to mention 'race', unlike sex, actually IS a social construct, and far more of a spectrum than sex/gender (for example a white person and a black person have a kid, that person is somewhere on the spectrum between white and black, etc., and has far more right to identify one way or another.

Two questions for you Sparko out of curiosity:

Do you think there is a biological mechanism during fetal development that results in sex identification in the brain?

If yes, do you think there is a biological mechanism during fetal development that results in race identification in the brain?

If no, let's say you or your average man had their genitals surgically altered at birth, were raised as a girl, and secretly given hormone therapy as a teenager to acquire female secondary sex characteristics, do you think this would be psychologically harmful even if you/they never discovered you/they were born male?

I wonder if something like that has ever happened...

                    Oh.

                    David Reimer

David Reimer (born Bruce Peter Reimer; 22 August 1965 – 4 May 2004) was a Canadian man born male but raised as a girl following medical advice and intervention after his penis was severely injured during a botched circumcision in infancy.[1]

The psychologist John Money oversaw the case and reported the reassignment as successful and as evidence that gender identity is primarily learned. The academic sexologist Milton Diamond later reported that Reimer's realization that he was not a girl crystallized between the ages of 9 and 11 years[2] and that he was living as a male by age 15. Well known in medical circles for years anonymously as the "John/Joan" case, Reimer later went public with his story to help discourage similar medical practices. At age 38, he committed suicide after suffering severe depression.

Are you conflating sex and gender?

Yeah I agree with that. I doubt if there are many fully black or white people in the world at this point, especially in the USA where whites and blacks have mixed since the days of slavery.

I don't know. Could be affected by hormones..

                            Probably not.

I don't know. But it wouldn't change the fact that they were still biologically male down to their DNA. So they would be living a lie. And the doctors and parents would be guilty of child abuse and should be tossed in prison.

Regarding your first question, even if someone thinks they are female trapped in a male body, that doesn't make them female. It just makes them wrong and delusional. And in need of mental therapy. Same as if someone thinks they are a cat, or a chair.
