How many times have we heard this only for it to be summarily dismissed by the left?

Source: NBC Shock Report: Feds Could've Stopped Jan. 6 Riots From Happening

During a Tuesday night segment on NBC Nightly News, justice and intelligence correspondent Ken Dilanian had an exclusive sitdown interview with the former federal prosecutor and chief investigator of the January 6 Committee, Tim Heaphy who told Dilanian that the federal government could've prevented the January 6 riot at the Capitol if they took the intelligence they received seriously and acted on the threats that were received about the rioters' intentions that day.

What was just as out of the ordinary for NBC was the admission that among the more than 800 pages in the January 6 Committee's report, none of it included their findings on the failure of law enforcement to prevent the riots. Anchor Lester Holt made as much clear in the opening moments of the segment before tossing to Dilanian:

"The January 6 Committee's final report was more than 800 pages, but some material did not make the cut, including much of its findings on the failures of federal law enforcement leading up to the attack," Holt admitted.

"The images of the attack on the capitol stunned America and the world. And tonight, in an exclusive interview, the chief investigator of the January 6 Committee says the government could have prevented it," Dilanian reported before turning to Heaphy to ask "had law enforcement agencies acted on the available intelligence, do you believe the attack on the capitol could have been could have been successfully repelled?"

Heaphy responded: "I think it would have been a lot different had law enforcement taken a more assertive protective posture. The Intel in advance was pretty specific, and it was enough in our view for law enforcement to have done a better job operationalizing a secure perimeter."

"Law enforcement had a very direct role in contributing to surely the failures—the security failures that led to the violence," Heaphy added.

Dilanian revealed how "people familiar with the committee’s work tell NBC News members downplayed that finding because they wanted to keep the focus on former President Trump. Committee members dispute that."

That admission was followed by Dilanian reporting how "Heaphy says the committee found the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies did not act on the intelligence they had, including this online threat forwarded to capitol police January 5, calling for thousands to go to Washington and help storm the capitol."

Yet, according to Dilanian, "the FBI said it sent all the intelligence it had to the capitol police. DHS and capitol police say they've taken steps to make sure threat intelligence is better analyzed and shared."

Now they tell us that law enforcement didn't take the intelligence seriously or failed to act on it. Well over a month after the January 6 Committee report was released, these key findings were conveniently left out of the over 800-page report. Instead, the hyper-partisan committee was more focused on what former President Donald Trump says was a political witch hunt against him.

The government didn't want to prevent it. They needed it to happen so they had another reason to cast aspersions on Trump and his followers. Their goal is always to keep themselves in power no matter what.

    The end justifies the means.

It's the same reason that some of the classified docs found at Biden's places were known about just days before the midterms but the news was not released until recently. Heaven forbid they release them sooner and the midterms went differently than they did.

Trump offered use of the National Guard to help maintain order. Pelosi's minions nixed it.

Texts, email messages and testimony from Capitol Police leaders as well as rank-and-file officers reveals that Pelosi and her staff had closely coordinated with Capitol Police and the House Sergeant at Arms on security plans for the Joint Session of Congress on J6. The Chief of the Capitol Police, Steven Sund, repeatedly asked for more assistance, only to be rebuffed by the Sergeant at Arms who was following Pelosi's instructions (he answers directly to her). Apparently after allowing and cheerleading the months of rioting taking place the previous Summer, she claimed that she was worried about the "optics" of having the National Guard deployed.

According to a report released by House Republicans Pelosi and her people were so involved that San Fran Nan's chief of staff ,Terri McCullough, was literally editing details of parking, event timing and even the "language regarding official business visitors" for the session.

That's pretty darn "hands on" to be controlling such minutiae

I cited elsewhere, from the actual final report, that there was a failure of the Capitol Police leadership to come with ANY kind of department wide plan to deal with the situation.

Capitol police leadership had no plan for Jan. 6 protest, despite warnings, officers say

As the rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, many of the police officers had to decide on their own how to fight them off. There was no direction. No plan. And no top leadership.

One cop ran from one side of the building to another, fighting hand-to-hand against rioters. Another decided to respond to any calls of officers in distress and spent three hours helping cops who had been immobilized by bear spray or other chemicals.

Three officers were able to handcuff one rioter. But a crowd swarmed the group and took the arrested man away with the handcuffs still on.

Interviews with four members of the U.S. Capitol Police who were overrun by rioters on Jan. 6 show just how quickly the command structure collapsed as throngs of people, egged on by President Donald Trump, set upon the Capitol. The officers spoke on condition of anonymity because the department has threatened to suspend anyone who speaks to the media.

“We were on our own,” one of the officers told The Associated Press. “Totally on our own.”

The officers who spoke to the AP said they were given next to no warning by leadership on the morning of Jan. 6 about what would become a growing force of thousands of rioters, many better armed than the officers themselves were. And once the riot began, they were given no instructions by the department’s leaders on how to stop the mob or rescue lawmakers who had barricaded themselves inside. There were only enough officers for a routine day.

Three officers told the AP they did not hear Chief Steven Sund on the radio the entire afternoon. It turned out he was sheltering with Vice President Mike Pence in a secure location for some of the siege. Sund resigned the next day.

His assistant chief, Yogananda Pittman, who is now interim chief, was heard over the radio telling the force to “lock the building down,” with no further instructions, two officers said.

One specific order came from Lt. Tarik Johnson, who told officers not to use deadly force outside the building as the rioters descended, the officers recounted. The order almost certainly prevented deaths and more chaos, but it meant officers didn’t pull their weapons and were fighting back with fists and batons.

Johnson has been suspended after being captured on video wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat while moving through crowds of rioters. Johnson told colleagues he wore the hat as a tactic to gain the crowd’s confidence as he tried to reach other officers who were pinned down by rioters, one of the officers said. A video of the incident obtained by the Wall Street Journal shows Johnson asking rioters for help in getting his colleagues.

Johnson, who could not be reached for comment, was heard by an officer on the radio repeatedly asking, “Does anybody have a plan?”

Naturally, these officers are traitors, probably planted by the Republicans.

New Capitol Police document shows how unprepared they were for Jan. 6 riots

A police planning memo from Jan. 5 missed the mark, declaring there were “no specific known threats.”

Capitol Police rejected offers of federal help to quell mob

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three days before supporters of President Donald Trump rioted at the Capitol, the Pentagon asked the U.S Capitol Police if it needed National Guard manpower. And as the mob descended on the building Wednesday, Justice Department leaders reached out to offer up FBI agents. The police turned them down both times, according to senior defense officials and two people familiar with the matter.

Despite plenty of warnings of a possible insurrection and ample resources and time to prepare, the Capitol Police planned only for a free speech demonstration.

Still stinging from the uproar over the violent response by law enforcement to protests last June near the White House, officials also were intent on avoiding any appearance that the federal government was deploying active duty or National Guard troops against Americans.

The result is the U.S. Capitol was overrun Wednesday and officers in a law enforcement agency with a large operating budget and experience in high-security events protecting lawmakers were overwhelmed for the world to see. Four protesters died, including one shot inside the building.

The rioting and loss of control has raised serious questions over security at the Capitol for future events. The actions of the day also raise troubling concerns about the treatment of mainly white Trump supporters, who were allowed to roam through the building for hours, while Black and brown protesters who demonstrated last year over police brutality faced more robust and aggressive policing.

“This was a failure of imagination, a failure of leadership,” said Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, whose department responded to several large protests last year following the death of George Floyd. “The Capitol Police must do better and I don’t see how we can get around that.”

Acevedo said he has attended events on the Capitol grounds to honor slain police officers that had higher fences and a stronger security presence than what he saw on video Wednesday.

Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said that as the rioting was underway, it became clear that the Capitol Police were overrun. But he said there was no contingency planning done in advance for what forces could do in case of a problem at the Capitol because Defense Department help was turned down. “They’ve got to ask us, the request has to come to us,” said McCarthy.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, under pressure from Schumer, Pelosi and other congressional leaders, was forced to resign. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell asked for and received the resignation of the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate, Michael Stenger, effective immediately. Paul Irving, the longtime Sergeant at Arms of the House, also resigned.

“There was a failure of leadership at the top,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.

It is obvious that government officials did not act to provide the security needed to prevent what happened. To understand why one need to look no further than the mockery and criticisms from the right when the presence of the National Guard after Jan 6 prevented further escalation. "See they said, they are overreacting, nothing else happened". The simple truth is that if they had acted with sufficient force to prevent it, they would have been raked over the coals for trying to turn DC into a police state and for trying to suppress free speech. Such is the hypocrisy of these sorts of criticisms.
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

So, the liberals, as they so often do, responded to feelings and were worried about optics, rather doing their jobs and letting the chips fall where they may. Absolute dereliction of duty --- "yeah, we coulda done our job, but we were SO skeeeeered we'd be mocked".
