There was a new study out about covid in children a couple of days ago:

Covid-19 is a leading cause of death for children in the US, despite relatively low mortality rate

Covid-19 has become the eighth most common cause of death among children in the United States, according to a study published Monday.

Children are significantly less likely to die from Covid-19 than any other age group – less than 1% of all deaths since the start of the pandemic have been among those younger than 18, according to federal data. Covid-19 has been the third leading cause of death in the broader population.

But it’s rare for children to die for any reason, the researchers wrote, so the burden of Covid-19 is best understood in the context of other pediatric deaths...

In 2019, the last year before the pandemic, the leading causes of death among children and young adults ages 0 to 19 included perinatal conditions, unintentional injuries, congenital malformations or deformations, assault, suicide, malignant neoplasms, diseases of the heart and influenza and pneumonia...

Covid-19 deaths displace influenza and pneumonia, becoming the top cause of death caused by any infectious or respiratory disease.

“If we looked at all those other leading causes of death – whether you’re talking about motor vehicle accidents or childhood cancer – and we said, ‘Gosh, if we had some simple, safe thing we could do to get rid of one of those, wouldn’t we just jump at it?” And we have that with Covid with vaccines,” said O’Leary, who is also a professor of pediatric infectious disease at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado.... “Vaccination clearly is our best option right now,” and the benefits clearly outweigh the risks, he said. “Better safe than sorry.”

It also doesn't stop people from transmitting the virus. In fact, early studies showed that those with the vaccine who contracted the China flu tended to carry a higher viral load making them even more contagious than the unvaccinated.

That is not known with any level of certainty. With the vaccines, therapeutics, and the rise of both natural and hybrid immunity (recently shown to be the best sort of immunity) we have seen a significant decline in mortality from the disease. But at this point it is nearly impossible to get good statics on the current mortality in a 'virgin' population as it was in the time frame for your chart. Further, at that point, there were not enough cases to be able to get accurate statistics on the dangers to younger people, because it does have a significantly lower mortality in that 0-19 bracket. It is low, bit it is not 0.

That people under 20 years old are barely affected by covid, and (if it happens) they will be the generation that achieves herd immunity. Any attempt to force them to get vaccinated is ill advised - for their own health and possibly for everyone else.
True, but they are affected. And as far as I know, the potential for serious side effects, even if not directly fatal, still exists and still exceeds the same risk from the vaccines. Further, not vaccinating a large portion of the population greatly increases the risk to the more vulnerable populations. We vaccinate as much of the population as possible to reduce the total mortality across the entire population. That is part of the risk assessment.

Except again, vaccines do not stop the virus from infecting you, and do not stop you from spreading it.

Except that I was discussing the mortality of the disease, which the vaccines have reduced significantly, and the side effects of the disease in the younger populations vs the side effects of the vaccines in that same population - where the disease is signifcantly worse than the vaccine.

Do not stop from spreading is true, yet that is only part of the story - they clearly do both slow the spread and reduce the severity.

I can agree with virtually everything on the first page of this thread -- even though several contradict each other.

What the article fails entirely to mention is the presence of comorbidities in children who die from COVID, which is higher than any other age group. The article also mentions that over 90% of children have already had COVID, which means they already have the antibodies that a vaccine would create. Given the risks associated with the vaccines, it is not at all obvious that the benefits outweigh the risks for this age group (in particular).
