Facebook No Longer Fact-Checking Candidate Donald Trump

Facebook will not fact check comments made by former President Donald Trump now that he officially has announced a campaign for president in 2024, CNN reported.

A Meta company memo sent Tuesday to staffers made clear that if Trump announced a presidential run, he no longer could be fact-checked on the platform because politicians are exempt from the process, CNN reported...

What?!? Not that I care at all what Facebook does, nor do I care about most of the "fact checkers" (who are usually shills for Democrats), but doesn't this seem like a backward policy to most people? Ordinary Facebook users certainly don't need to be fact checked because anyone with a grain of brain matter knows that the Internet is full of falsehoods and bluster. But its policy is that politicians are exempt from fact checking? That makes no sense to me.

Eh. My brother figured it out.

Elon Musk bought Twitter. So now that Musk is fact-checking Joe Biden and making a fool of that old liar, and other Democrats (who lie all day long), Zuckerberg decided that fact-checking politicians shouldn't be done anymore. So he can claim that Facebook is being fair with its hands-off approach, but really he knows Democrats will lose big in a fair fight over honesty, so better to make honesty a non issue.

Since when did this become policy? Didn't they fact check him when he was in office and didn't Trump once even threaten to use an executive order to regulate Social Media as a result?

        ETA: That was Twitter.

In the case of Facebook, the article makes it sound like a recent policy. People here who have Facebook might have a better idea than me (since I don't use it).

I wouldn't be surprised if they instituted it shortly after the self-professed "Human Gaffe Machine" was sworn in given how he keeps making "mistakes" like this

Truthfully I think it is a good policy. that way they can't be accused of being biased.
