  • Here we are again!

The title comes from the famous catch phrase used by Joseph Grimaldi, who pretty much crafted the image of what we think of as a clown today. And what happened again is definitely clownish.

Facebook has once again censored the Babylon Bee for a satirical article because it was "false information."

To put this in context it is necessary to look at a little history.

In 2018 ago the phony "fact checkers" at Snopes rated a story "false" that was about how CNN was using an industrial-sized washing machine to "spin" the news. This actually resulted in Facebook citing this fact-check in a warning message to the Babylon Bee, where they threatened to limit their content distribution and monetization. A humiliated Facebook quickly apologized after learning that Snopes was fact checking satire.

But it hasn't been just Snopes who are upset with the Babylon Bee. Other, once supposedly credible news outlets appear to have a problem with their satire (a strong indication that it is hitting its mark).

Last year the New York Times was forced to issue a retraction after declaring in March that the satirical website was a "far-right misinformation site" that "trafficked in misinformation." The retraction was the typical mealy-mouthed one we've come to expect.

“An earlier version of this article referred imprecisely to the Babylon Bee, a right-leaning satirical website, and a controversy regarding the handling of its content by Facebook and the fact-checking site Snopes. While both Facebook and Snopes previously have classified some Babylon Bee articles as misinformation, rather than satire, they have dropped those claims, and the Babylon Bee denies that it has trafficked in misinformation.”

Of course they leave out the shamefaced apology Facebook made after discovering that the folks at Snopes were humorous morons who never heard of satire before, had led them astray. Apologies are more than just dropping the claims.

But then, who ever said that the New York Times possesses any integrity or are even basically honest?

For it's part The Babylon Bee goes well out of its way to be clear they are a satirical site repeatedly describing itself as "your trusted source for Christian news satire" and "the world’s best satire site." And yet leftwing gloomy goobers can still manage to take a joke about CNN using a washing machine to "spin" the news seriously.

Perhaps it is because they themselves have published so many spectacularly ridiculous claims as fact over the past four to five years that they assume that is what the Bee must be doing.

In any case, as the CEO of the Bee, Seth Dillon, pointed out "The NY Times was using misinformation to smear us as being a source of it. That’s not merely ironic; it’s malicious. We pushed back hard and won."

So now that we see that the Babylon Bee is a thorn in the left's side because of their spot-on satires, let's see what has got their knickers in a bunch this time and needed to be censored

Yup. Apparently Facebook thinks people would take this seriously.

Source: Facebook Slaps Fact-Check on Babylon Bee Satirical LeBron James Photo

The trigger-happy oligarchs at the censorship-obsessed Facebook are apparently so dense they don’t understand satire.

Satire site The Babylon Bee posted a funny photo of Los Angeles Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis wearing laced collars to honor the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The posted meme was a snapshot of a two-year-old Bee article published Sept. 22, 2020. According to Facebook, the joke was “false information.”

The platform linked out to a 2020 fact-check by CheckYourFact.com to rebuke The Babylon Bee. The fact-check was headlined: “FACT CHECK: DID THE LAKERS WEAR LACE COLLARS TO HONOR RUTH BADER GINSBURG?” The Daily Caller wholly owns CheckYourFact.com.

News flash, Facebook: The meme was clearly a joke! The tech platform apparently realized how foolish it looked and later removed the fact-check from the post, but not before being blasted on social media for applying the fact-check in the first place.

The Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon mocked Facebook for its inability to take a joke: “This was a particularly dangerous joke,” he tweeted. “Thank you, Facebook, for keeping us all safe!” This is more proof that Big Tech’s crazy censorship apparatus is so senseless and arbitrary that it even comes back to kick them in the pants.

For example, Facebook once flagged posts that used the word "hoe" in a group called WNY Gardeners when users referred to the useful weeding tool. The censorship was so stupid that even The Associated Press ran a story headlined: “Hoe no! Facebook snafu spells trouble for gardening group.” As comedian Rodney Dangerfield humorously remarked during a stand-up performance: “Just last week a guy pulled a knife on me. I could see it wasn’t a real professional job — there was butter on it.”

But Facebook isn’t the only platform at war with satire. The Babylon Bee’s Twitter account remains locked after The Babylon Bee posted that transgender U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine was the site’s “Man of the Year.”

And it looks like The Bee also has trouble with their servers who tend to lock them out The Babylon Bee Is A Victim Of Corporate Cancel Culture, Again

As I said in another thread they modded me 4 times for posting this cartoon:

    facecrack socialism - Copy.jpg

They claimed it violated their rule against self-harm.

when I asked for a review of the 4 times they found the cartoon in my history from years ago, One came back with an apology and said it did not violate their rules, the other three came back and said after review they were upholding their ruling.

I guess they knew that promoting socialism was the same as promoting self-harm.
