Why do you think those things are inconsistent? How do you engender pride in a corrupt police force?

That's totally valid, too. Likewise with folks who repurpose "holocaust" or "fascist." The latter is especially poignant in the face of recent elections in Italy. This is the hyperbole trap. When folks adopt a real term inappropriately, they run the risk of having no language left for appropriate alarm at the real thing when it arises.

It is essential that we don't undermine faith in the police v. how can anyone trust the police given that they're racist.

Kinda like what has happened with racist, Islamophobe, sexist, white supremacist etc. When all of your opponents are fascists/racists/commies or whatever it becomes hard for someone to recognize the real thing when it comes along.

Apart from misquoting what I said, you have not explained why you think they are contradictory. They are just two distinct statements, and you can agree/disagree with either one indepentantly or both. All I am saying is that trust in law enforcemnet is good, corruption in law enforcement is bad.

And yet when we pointed out apparent corruption in the FBI, you claim that is undermining trust in law enforcement. Maybe you think corruption in law enforcement is bad but nobody should point it out lest they undermine trust in law enforcement?

Quick question. Were the people pushing the "Defund the police" movement undermining trust in law enforcement.

Did YOU undermine trust when you called them thugs?

A well funded, properly trained, and well regulated police force is desirable.

There can always be bad apples, and we need ways to root them out.

That is a nice statement, but you didn't answer the questions.

Also, when you called the US a police state, how is that any different than calling the FBI "stasi"?

Some, a few, policemen are thugs. Support for the police includes rooting out thugs. You must always try to work towards improvement because they are an important public service. Also understand the risks and temptations of policemen to break the law, and put barriers up to protect them, and us.

Violence against abortionists is rare enough that it's newsworthy. Violence against pro-lifers is so commonplace that most news organizations don't even bother to report it.
