  • Swedish National Elections

Sweden held an election and replaced their government. Instead of center-left government, they've moved to center-right. The parties involved still have to form a government so this could fail yet. It is interesting to note that the anti-immigration party got about 20% of the vote.

Apparently, the winners campaigned on a law-and-order platform (I wasn't aware of an uptick in gun violence in Sweden) plus anti-immigration. Sounds vaguely familiar.

I know one article doesn't make me an expert on all things Swedish. I am wondering if Sweden will still be held up as an example to the world and if they'll retain their happiest country in the world title.

The way that the rankings are made will be adjusted to make sure that does not take place.

It looks like Italy is also about to move to the right as well.

I'm always still in trouble again

This seems to be a trend among many democracies with people electing right-wing governments. It does not bode well for the future.

If you live in a country where women work, families are unaffordable, and the population is aging, immigration of a young population is essential. You loose purity of race as a result, and some folks don’t like that.

Not sure what you mean by rankings being 'adjusted'. The major survey I am familiar with on happiness just surveys people and asks them to rank their lives on a 1 (terrible) to 10 (perfect) scale and averages that result per country. Other similar surveys will use similar methodologies, so there's no scope to adjust anything. It's not like liberals swoop in and say "we like Sweden's political policies, so it's people are actually happier than they say they are, so we'll just add 1 to their self-reported happiness scores."

Finland, Denmark and Norway seem to usually be top-3 on these type of surveys. Sweden is usually in the top-10 countries but I don't think it's ever ranked in the top 3.

"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

Most ranking systems for such things I'm familiar with select certain factors of the location to make the determination which is often the reason such "surveys" don't even make it to the level of a joke.

For instance, a few years ago there was one of these studies about healthiest cities in the country. Did they check things like life expectancy to determine that? No. That would be too easy and obvious. Instead they looked to see how many gyms there were per square mile and compared them to the number of drive-through fast food restaurants there were. Obviously such a method could have their results skewed by a myriad of different things.

I'm always still in trouble again

Looking at our country over the last nearly two years, it has been electing a left-wing government that has been very bad for our present and foreseeable future.

Do you want that list in alphabetical, categorical, chronological order or by order of importance?

I cannot think of one single thing that they have done that haven't made things worse.

I also found it interesting that Jimmie Åkesson comes from a small town [Sölvesborg] and that his party [initially a neo-Nazi party formed in the 1980s] appears to have built its support in rural areas and small towns rather than the larger towns and cities, as historically, other such extreme RW parties have done.
