So shut down Nuke plants, Natural Gas, Oil or Coal plants while requiring all new car be electric by 2035. How are they going to charge all these new electric cars? These leftists will turn us into a third world country...

Californians asked to keep AC at 78 and nix electric vehicle charges to spare grid

California grid operators warned residents to prepare for voluntary energy cuts and other emergency measures, such as turning down the air conditioning and forgoing electric vehicle charges, as the state braces for a period of excessive heat expected to last through Tuesday.

The California Independent System Operator said in a statement it is taking measures to bring “all available resources” online ahead of the heat wave, which is expected to be the longest and most severe high-heat period to hit the state so far this year.

Yes, that would help a lot! But are we even close?

I don't think so. Plus the leftists will find some reason to not trust it and demand it not be used like they do nuclear.

There are small and safe nuclear power plants too that don't create nuclear waste (they can actually use waste as fuel) but again they aren't trusted.

I think the real reason is that the democrats NEED fossil fuel power plants and power shortages and climate change as their "sky is falling" campaign to keep grabbing power. Without fear they have nothing.

I think you'll find it's 3rd world republican Texas that has the problematic power grid.

Many leftists, eg me, are pro nuclear power. And no one is proposing less electricity be produced, only that electricity production is shifted to sources that don't cause climate change and natural disasters.

As for 'fear' it's well known that conservatives have more active amegdalas in their brains making them mentally obsessed with and triggered by fear, paranoia and anger in a way liberals simply aren't. I view conservativism as a mental disorder as a result.

I'm okay with nukes, as long as they are VERY carefully monitored by the government. I don't trust corporations, which are by their nature more concerned with profit than public safety.

I don't think requiring all new cars to be electric by 2035 is really necessary. We've reached the point where people will buy them as fast as they can be produced. Eventually, there will be few enough customers for gas stations that most of them will close, and gasoline powered vehicles will go the way of the horse and buggy.

As for shutting down fossil fuel power plants, we should of course only do so as allowed by the increase in production of alternatives, and start with the dirtiest ones.

California is experiencing rolling blackouts already, and no solution in sight for it. Now they are going to exchange all of their gasoline-powered vehicles for electric? I say "Good luck with that."

The drought, along with summer temperatures, is providing a serious challenge for California. But I think it will be handled.

An important skill for prehistoric man. But in the modern day where such threats are much fewer and far between it tends to misfire.

Taking it to ridiculous extremes, you would have the progressive on the ship with the broken crane worrying how he will unload when it reaches port while the conservative is worried about how the ship will ever make it to port with that hole below the water line.

I remember a progressive manager, over the protests of people who could see the risks, dismantling (not that he did it himself) a commercial kitchen because the equipment was old and inefficient and AFTERWARDS starting to look for new equipment to replace it with.

Much the same with climate change - the progressive worries about what will happen in the future, the conservative worries how to even arrive at the future without the stuff that keeps everything afloat.

Not many worry about how to replace the stuff without having replacements on line before they take the dangerous stuff off-line.

California tends to have more frequent issues providing power than Texas does. I believe you are hyping an isolated issue over Californias repeated ones.

They'd want me to turn my AC down 5 degrees?

They also plan on banning the sale of gas-powered cars in the state. It looks like it'll be a good time to be a car dealer in Arizona, Nevada and Oregon in a few years.
