It wasn't Donald Trump that was going to run in 2024, but one of his sons. And his son vowed to pick his father as chief of staff if elected.

I actually think it would be a pretty brilliant move. And you know the TDS crowd would immediately direct their attacks and vitriol at his son which would make it even more obvious to everyone that it's all just political.

What's with US conservatives and supporting dynasties? I thought you guys were supposed to be against monarchies and hereditary rule? First Bush Snr and Jr, and now you want Trump Snr and Jr?

Personally, at this point I couldn't care less which Rep runs just so long as we purge the present vermin from the house and senate and eventually the WH. It would just be extra fun watching the TDS crowd meltdown nationwide at the news. They had all their focus directed on OMB when it was actually his son set to run.

Because conservatives gravitate towards stability, as opposed to leftist chaos.

I thought you guys were supposed to be against monarchies and hereditary rule?
It is not a monarchy, if elected by the people. Of course we Christians, ultimately, are monarchists. God is the absolute King of the universe.

Someone being related to a politician isn't really a qualification. I mean, Hillary's husband being president didn't bother many democrats. The reality is that families with political members are more likely to end up having political children. You don't seem to complain about Liz Cheney being daughter of a vp. Democrats don't complain about the Kennedy's.

This happens. A person's family should have no connection to whether they are qualified for the office they seek.

Five percent of the members of the 115th Congress — 15 Democrats and 14 Republicans — were preceded at the Capitol by members of their immediate families. The only time it bothers me is when a Congressman dies and they place his widow in office to fill out his term like she had a special qualification just by being their spouse.

As MM says, these folks have to be elected by the voters so it isn't like here in Georgia back in the 40s when the Governor died and his son declares he inherited the position

I'm always still in trouble again

I'm actually bothered more by career longevity than "dynasties." Pelosi, McConnell, Biden being in politics forever bothers me more because that reeks of a revolving door of establishment corruption.

The Clintons have been grooming Chelsea for a House run in the next couple of years. And there seems to be some member of the Bush clan always running for this or that office.

I can see a disdain for dynasties. But in the case of the Trumps, that isn't at all what a dynasty makes. Not only are they not career politicians (which I hate worse), but they obviously are not leveraging any underhanded favors or advantages from the establishment (unlike folks like the Clintons) because the establishment hates them, so any election advantage they have comes directly from the voters, which is how it should be.

*I should add, other than the establishment left making Trump a martyr, which seems to be working in Trump's favor now.

No thank you. If either of them run and get the nomination, I'll give up all hope on the Republican Party. And they'll definitely not have my vote. And it has nothing to do with a distaste for dynasties, either - overall I really don't care if someone's family member runs for office after they've run for office, etc., that in itself won't make me not want to vote for them. It all comes down to who they are and who that family member is. And Don Jr. is nothing more than a slightly more intelligent and eloquent version of his father (whilst Eric is an even dumber version of his father).
