  • We built a go-cart in an abandoned barn when we were kids …

But when it came time to take it out, it wouldn’t fit through the door.

Rotterdam Won’t Dismantle Bridge to Allow Jeff Bezos’ Superyacht Through
    .
The port city faced an uproar months ago as it considered dismantling a section of a 95-year-old bridge to allow the Amazon founder’s yacht to pass. But now the boat’s builder, the Dutch company Oceanco, has decided to refrain from applying for a permit, according to a Rotterdam City Council member.

It was unclear how Mr. Bezos’ yacht would leave the area or whether Oceanco would finish the boat. The company did not respond to requests for comment on Wednesday and Thursday. An Amazon spokeswoman did not immediately return a request for comment.

So here’s the new plan. First, build the world’s biggest helicopter …

      but

Seriously - the bridge was slated to be dismantled long enough to get the yacht out and then be put back together again - just like it was - and at the company's expense. The same thing that was done when it needed maintenance a few years back, so what's the beef?

        The bridge &/or the yacht

At 417 feet, they should either convert it into a football field or a parking lot.

The city had done a dismantle/rebuild, the citizens hated it so much the city swore to never do it again. So, this rubbed citizens the wrong way.

He should donate it to Rotterdam, the city can make a mini mall out of it, and then build a new yacht someplace where it won't be locked in. Poor planning has a price.

The well deserved mockery is welcome here.

But we should also acknowledge that it’s just the masts that are keeping his sailboat from clearing the bridge and they can be raised elsewhere.

Or they could hoist them where they’re at and carve a hole through the city to bring it through like some youngsters I once knew who faced a similar challenge.

I was wondering whether it was the height or beam that caused the problem. The ship-yard wanted to complete the build on site, but the bridge argument put the kibosh on that idea, so the masts will have to be installed elsewhere. A lot of kerfuffle for a disused bridge that would not have suffered any in the original plan.

I would say the mockery is appropriate provided the company started doing this merely assuming that the bridge would be an issue they could solve earlier. If on the other hand, this was (even unofficially) given the go-ahead by authorities, then it's less deserved mockery, and more unfortunate turn of events.

Maybe he can sell the yacht to a Russian Oligarch? I hear they are short a few.
