Eighty-five percent of US adults feel country headed in wrong direction

President Joe Biden faces tough numbers, as nearly 85% of U.S. adults feel the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to a new poll.

In a survey conducted bythe Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs, 92% of Republicans feel the nation is heading in the wrong direction, and 78% of Democrats feel the same way.

With inflation and gas prices rocking the economy, adults across the board view the direction of the economy in a negative light. Eighty-one percent of adults perceive the economy as poor. Broken down by party, 67% of Democrats have this view, while 90% of Republicans do.

These numbers are significantly up from what the poll found last year, when only 37% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans felt negative about the economy.

In the new survey, 60% overall said they disapprove of Biden's job as president, and 39% said they approve. Among independents, 73% said they disapprove of Biden's performance.

"The nationwide poll was conducted June 23-27, 2022 using the AmeriSpeak® Panel, the probability-based panel of NORC at the University of Chicago. Online and telephone interviews using landlines and cell phones were conducted with 1,053 adults," according to a post from AP-NORC. "The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.0 percentage points."

By the way, I'm posting this without comment so that, if anybody doesn't like it, I can pull an H_A and run away from it.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

The problem is that the left and right likely believe this for different reasons. I've seen some polls where Dems are still sure the economy is doing great, which shows you how delusional (or just partisan tribal) they are. I think the Dems are primarily unhappy that the Biden admin is not being totalitarian enough for their liking, and the fact we have a court system protecting us (at least in some cases) from these authoritarian nutcases.

I think the Dems have a bigger problem here, with Biden constantly kowtowing to the extreme left of his party --- and they think he's not going far enough. Meanwhile, the "normal" leftists think he's going too far. If there are any "moderate" Dems, they seem to be leaving the Party.

I can't decide whether you're trying to trick other people into believing that or are legitimately so unhinged you believe it yourself.

Him nominating KBJ is literally the only time issue I can think of. Care to share any other examples of Biden "constantly kowtowing to the extreme left of his party" rather than following the center-right like he seems to do 100% of the time?

This is the one sort of poll that I find even more useless than national polls on presidential races.

For instance, the people might see the country headed in the wrong direction but see the president as being the one thing standing in the way of the direction the country is going. Not likely in this case

Or there could have been a jump among Democrats due to the recent spate of SCOTUS rulings.

IOW, they're effectively meaningless and useless.

I'm always still in trouble again

Hmm. You might have a point there.

I mean I cannot think of a time since, well, yesterday.

Any time A.O.C. is enthusiastically supporting your action, which is a flip-flop from previous statements against the left's wanting to abort the filibuster, I think you have an example.

But that was all of yesterday ago.

Yeah, you can look at just about ANY speech or statement from Joe from, say, 10 years ago or more, and compare that today. Total 180. And this "uniter" is constantly at war with Republicans, and now he's at war with SCOTUS. He's about as uniting as a turd in a public swimming pool.

considering you think Stalin was a right-winger, it's no wonder you think Biden is "center-right"

Um... Trying your best to stop the reduction of women's rights is hardly kowtowing to the 'extreme left' of a political party.

Abortion is not a women's rights issue.

Actually, it really is. Almost by definition - their right not to be forced into a pregnancy they don't want and give up their body for 9 months.

You removed their right to choose, and they're pushing back. Who would have guessed? Turns out the republicans and their dubiously elected SCOTUS judges are the dogs that caught the car. Lets see what happens.

It is the means employed that is where the kowtowing to the far left can be seen and why A.O.C. is jubilant.

The man who not too long ago called the filibuster a "pillar of American democracy" and that "ending the filibuster is a very dangerous thing to do," has now declared his willingness to support suspending it.

Perhaps old Joe should have a bit of a talk with himself when he still had at least most of his marbles, when he said in 2005:

This nuclear option is ultimately an example of the arrogance of power. It is a fundamental power grab by the majority party.

He might have something to say to the codger who declares

We have no option but to change the Senate rules, including getting rid of the filibuster.
