First, in a survey, people will often identify as "Christian" or even "Evangelical Christian" because they belong to a certain denomination, or because they are not atheists, Jews, Muslims....
Could be that they "identify" as Christians, but don't really practice Christianity.
Could also be that they're genuinely Christians, and (as a number of girls have told me) "I know sex before marriage is wrong, and I couldn't face that shame", so, they feel like they've already sinned, and this might "fix' that.
They are in a desperate situation and, as people often do, they take desperate measures.

One of the things I worked on early in my Youth Minister days was to fight this "shunning" that I saw in my (then) Independent Baptist Church where young girls who got pregnant were ostracized and, pretty much, "pitched out", when they're facing a time when they really need the Lord and the Church.
Or in some cases, literally kicked out by their parents. (I don't even know how I would deal with this threat as a pro-life volunteer.)
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Well, after coming to my conclusion that "unwed mothers" (as we used to call them back then) needed a whole lot more love than condemnation from the Church, I was very happy I had been vocal about that when (some 20 years later) my own daughter informed me she was pregnant (and was 'unwed').

Actually, I found out about it when her ex-boyfriend tried to provoke me into a fight by screaming at me "SHE's PREGNANT, what are you going to do about THAT!"

It was one of those moments when God must have shut my mouth and the Holy Spirit allowed me to say, "then we'll love the baby", and we gathered up her things and got her out of that squalid dump of an apartment.

Her daughter - my first grandchild, is now a manager at a Walgreens.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

That guy sounds like a real winner.

My niece was terrified to tell my brother that she was pregnant. Like me he has a temper that gets expressed loudly. She assumed he was going to either kick her out or demand she abort the baby or get kicked out (he had indicated that's what he would do if she ever got pregnant).

After she told him he did erupt but according to my SiL, almost immediately turned around, embraced her and asked her what she wanted to do and backed her decision to keep the baby 100%.

Made me proud to be his brother that day.

I'm always still in trouble again
