  • The Political Right: The Home of Free Speech

If you know Matt Taibbi you know he is a long standing liberal journalist. This is along interview and worth a watch.

Atheism is the cult of death, the death of hope. The universe is doomed, you are doomed, the only thing that remains is to await your execution...

It has been a long strange shift since the days of the Berkeley Free Speech movement.

I'm always still in trouble again

"You're by far the worst poster on TWeb" and "TWeb's biggest liar" --starlight (the guy who says Stalin was a right-winger)
"Overall I would rate the withdrawal from Afghanistan as by far the best thing Biden's done" --Starlight
"Of course, human life begins at fertilization that’s not the argument." --Tassman

I have mixed feelings about how Christians should feel about free speech as in principle, I am open to bans on pornography and the like. But I can see how supporting it is now a good pragmatic bet as Christianity becomes more and more hated.
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

I'm reminded of the words of John Adams:

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd
But I'd rather be a fool in the eyes of man
Than a fool in the eyes of God

That's true; a lot of what we see now would have been unthinkable then. Though I would argue that the government was in fact being inconsistent by allowing prosecutions of publishes for obscene material in the 18th and 19th century; the Constitution simply doesn't have an exception written in for that.

As far as the actual premise of this post, it's undoubtedly true. It's most telling that Elon Musk was pilloried as a conservative for his stance on freedom of speech alone. But we can see that he's truly no conservative as Tesla is one of the companies that is promising to pay workers to travel for abortions.

I agree. I don't like that porn is so easily -- even accidentally! -- accessible, or that grandiosely gay stuff is everywhere, but I prefer that to any kind of content restrictions on speech or press or association. I'd be willing to see the perversion get *much* worse before saying, "Ok, experiment failed. Time to establish a theocracy."

Yes, I have some problems with "shades of gray." Either we have free speech or we don't.

It would be nice if the right did embrace some free speech for a change and stopped with all the "CRT" book bans and the don't-say-gay laws. I don't hold out much hope though... fascists gonna be fascists.

Ah yes, the Victorian era Playboy featuring a spread on bare table legs and a centerfold sketch of a woman lifting her skirt to reveal a nekid ankle and calf

Please point out one actual "Don't Say Gay" law and not something grossly mischaracterized by your far left kook sources.

We are speaking of what children in public schools are exposed to. Not what adults can or can not view or read... And there are no "don't say gay" laws.
