Officer husband of slain Uvalde teacher was detained, had gun taken away after trying to save wife Texas DPS director said Eva Mireles told her husband she ‘had been shot and was dying
Shocking testimony from the Texas DPS director on Tuesday has revealed even more insight into the “abject failure” of response to the Uvalde shooting that occurred on May 24.
Texas Department of Public Safety Director Col. Steven McCraw revealed that the husband of slain elementary teacher Eva Mireles tried to save her but was barred from doing so.
Ruben Ruiz is a police officer for the school district and was on the scene after the gunman entered the school and opened fire.
McCraw said Mireles called Ruiz and told him that “she had been shot and was dying.”
“And what happened to him, is he tried to move forward into the hallway,” McCraw said. “He was detained and they took his gun away from him and escorted him off the scene.”
McCraw didn’t say who specifically detained Ruiz.

And y'all's top cop, Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw, didn't seem to have one nice thing to say about the on-scene commander. He pretty much laid it on the line calling the entire debacle an "abject failure" (didn't need an expert to tell anyone that), adding that
"The only thing stopping a hallway of dedicated officers from entering room 111 and 112 was the on-scene commander," McCraw said, referring to Arredondo, who McCraw said "decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children."
McCraw's testimony shattered previous claims that officers who responded immediately lacked the necessary equipment and weapons to breach the doorway, instead opting to wait as more resources arrived.
"One hour, 14 minutes and eight seconds. That's how long the children waited and the teachers waited in rooms 111 and 112 to be rescued," McCraw said. "And while they waited, the on-scene commander waited for radios and rifles. Then he waited for shields. Then he waited for SWAT."
"Lastly, he waited for key that was never needed," said McCraw.
That had to have left a mark.
One more bit: Locks on 340,000 exterior school doors across Texas will be checked as part of Uvalde shooting response: Texas has more than 1,200 school districts, but the education commissioner promised plans for the review will be completed this summer.

So, the "see something say something" bit [mocked here by some] could well have prevented this thing.
Over and over and over ---- it's like the liberals NEED these school shootings as their excuse for gun grabbing. The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

So now [ looking to make sure this is the right thread ] the Mayor of Uvalde is mad as h-e-double hocky sticks at the DPS director, claiming he's lying and leaking.... and "the gloves are off".
So the idiot mayor wants a peeing contest, not "just the facts, ma'am".The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
