There is nothing to defend in Cawthorne. He's mostly in the same category as Taylor Greene. And if on some technical level he does not support putin directly, in this case it doesn't matter. His comments about Ukraine not only are absurd and massively inappropriate given the circumstances, they only serve to undermine US and NATO efforts and provide support to Putin's cause.

So he is wrong because it is important that he be wrong.

It strikes me as willingly obtuse to divorce Cawthorn's tweet from its context - the clear implication was one of isolationism. It was poorly worded; calling him "woke" may be true as Zelenskyy is socially liberal, but that is completely irrelevant here (unless you're Patriarch Kirill, maybe).

It strikes me as willingly obtuse to ignore the context that two corrupt countries are now engaged in Stone Age conflict. Maybe that’s not the best time to fish for social media karma?

Let’s not pretend the Grand Ol’ Party that inflates the defense budget every chance it gets, escalated Vietnam and covert wars, and started Afghanistan and Iraq 1 and 2, is “isolationist.”

That's totally irrelevant to the fact that individual party members can be isolationist. Cawthorn has been widely criticized by his own party, after all - even Thom Tillis (Republican Senator from his own state) is basically calling him out as a Russian propaganda mouthpiece on Twitter. I'm surprised to hear this from you, frankly. (You don't actually think I'm supporting Cawthorn's POV here, do you?)

You might have a point if Cawthorne weren’t obviously whoring for partisan points. Had it been a call for bipartisan unity on the matter by citing Ilhan Omar, I might agree with you. Omar has warned of the danger of giving weapons support to Ukraine.

That would be not be seen as pandering for partisan points.

I don’t think you’re supporting Cawthorne’s POV. I just wanted remind you of the high-level context of Cawthorne’s actions.

And like most of those, he is also an idiot. Just like Greene.

I've never heard of him until now. I'm simply respomding to the content of your post where you imply that he is wrong because it is important that he be wrong.
