  • Another gaffe from the British Foreign Secretary {Liz Truss] no less stating on television that she would support any Britons who wished to go to Ukraine to fight. Zelenskiy's decision to set up an international legion appears to be similar to the International Brigades of the Spanish Civil War.

However, Truss' comments run counter to advice from her own department's website and it was pointed out to her by a former Attorney General that anyone who did go and fight would be in breach of an 1870 law whereby it is illegal to enlist in a foreign army at war in a country that is at peace with the UK. So much for the Foreign Secretary's knowledge of British Law.

Hers is just the latest idiotic remark in a succession of idiotic remarks and behaviours.

Dominc Raab - now I believe the Deputy Prime Minister - last year expressed his amazement at the significance of the Calais-Dover crossing regarding goods going to and from the UK and earlier this year made another gaffe [again on television] about the party held for him during lockdown that wasn't a party!

Their very own Upper Class Twit of the Year [aka Jacob Rees Mogg] has been given responsibility for dealing with Brexit and he is so clueless he had to write an article in Murdoch's tabloid The Sun newspaper requesting that readers send him their comments on how, and in what ways, they consider Brexit has improved their lives. One only hopes that some of those comments come from small and medium businesses, truck drivers, fishermen, and farmers.

An argument might be raised that Russia is not at peace with the UK - given that sanctions have been put in place by the UK, that would tend to make the current circumstances "not at war with" but by no means "at peace with."

It might but for the Foreign Secretary of the UK to be so utterly ignorant of her own country's laws - and to be on television contradicting the advice available on the Foreign Office website - does not instil a great deal of confidence in her competence. However, two of her predecessors in the post were the same Dominic Raab and of course Johnson himself. Perhaps you recall reading about his attempt to quote The Road to Mandalay while as Foreign Secretary he was visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar.

That was in 2018 when he was the Brexit secretary. As one of the leading voices of Brexit, it was supremely unsurprising the level of his ignorance. Also one of the authors of the book Britannica Unchained, calling British workers some of the idlest in the world. A thick, libertarian nutter, he'd be well loved on here. He was also the MP where I used to live a few years ago.

He's a toy toff really, most of his accent is affected. His role is the Minister for Brexit Opportunities, and he did indeed write to the right-wing trash the Sun, asking readers for what they want out of Brexit - several years on and after it has been delivered.

Another leading Brexiter (leader of the ERG - or European Research Group) and therefore one of the main voices calling for Brexit. That he had no idea what it would entail is again unsurprising. Obviously all the things he said would happen turned out to be untrue - though it could just as easily be pig-ignorance on his part as it could be lies.

Truss is actually one of the favourites amongst the Tory membership to replace Johnson. She has had a great many photo ops recently where she pretends to be Thatcher. Most recently in Russia in the same fluffy hat worn by the iron lady (sic) herself.

The Home Secretary, Priti Patel is another charming character. She's currently trying her best to avoid taking in any refugees, unless they're willing to come here and pick fruit (obviously due to Brexit there's no more fruit pickers). She's also an author of Britannia Unchained.

Oh yes I read that Kevin Foster [an immigration minister] suggested the fruit picking option - what a creature!

Patel is quite odious and I sometimes think she missed her vocation. I could imagine her carrying a bullwhip and holding the leash of a snarling dog.

                I stand corrected.

                You have my sympathy.

Brexit was a tissue of lies and an appeal to a long gone former grandeur. Parts of Britain have to wake up to the fact that their country is no longer a Great Power but is now just a very small island nation that lies just off the coast of main-land Europe.

As for Rees Mogg yes I read this in the Graun https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...onservative-mp

He is quite a pitiful character really with his affectations of faux aristocracy. David Cameron was Lord Snooty in a Private Eye cartoon series. And this was their front cover with Mogg back in February 2018.
