  • NEW YORK (AP) — Soprano Anna Netrebko withdrew from her future engagements at the Metropolitan Opera, costing the company one of its top singers and best box-office draws.

“It is a great artistic loss for the Met and for opera,” Met General Manager Peter Gelb said in a statement Thursday. “Anna is one of the greatest singers in Met history, but with Putin killing innocent victims in Ukraine, there was no way forward.”

Gelb had said Sunday that the Met would not engage artists who support Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Met made repeated efforts in recent days attempting to convince Netrebko to repudiate Putin but failed to persuade her...

Private business choosing to terminate a relationship from someone who has supported Russian seperatists and who refuses to repudiate Putin, in order to not further harm their business = 'how soon till internment camps'?

      • Oh, how lovely, now Russia is shelling the largest nuclear power plant in Europe (now currently on fire, which is a wonderful state to have a nuclear power plant in). Guess they decided they needed to follow up on their malicious idiocy of almost 4 decades ago in Chernobyl and make even more of Ukrainian land a desolate radioactive wasteland.

        https://www.reuters.com/markets/euro...or-2022-03-04/

BORODYANKA/LVIV, Ukraine, March 4 (Reuters) - The largest nuclear power plant in Europe is on fire following a Russian attack, Ukraine's foreign minister said on Friday, as he called for a security zone and firefighters to be allowed to tackle the incident.

A generating unit at the plant has been hit during an attack by Russian troops and part of the station is on fire, RIA news agency cited the Ukrainian atomic energy ministry as saying on Friday.

A plant spokesperson told RIA that background levels of radiation had not changed.

"Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe," Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

"Fire has already broke out ... Russians must IMMEDIATELY cease the fire, allow firefighters, establish a security zone!"

There has been fierce fighting in the area about 550 kilometers (342 miles) southeast of Kyiv, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar said in an online post. He said there had been casualties, without giving details.

Russia has already captured the defunct Chernobyl plant, some 100 km north of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a tweet that it was "aware of reports of shelling" at the power plant and was in contact with Ukrainian authorities about situation.

Earlier, Ukrainian authorities reported Russian troops were stepping up efforts to seize the plant and had entered the town with tanks.

"As a result of continuous enemy shelling of buildings and units of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on fire," Orlov said on his Telegram channel, citing what he called a threat to world security. He did not give details.

Reuters could not immediately verify the information, including the potential seriousness of any fire.

As the biggest attack on a European state since World War Two enters its ninth day, thousands are thought to have died or been wounded, 1 million refugees have fled Ukraine and Russia's economy has been rocked by international sanctions.

But hey, don't worry, MM will be along soon to tell us that we can't possibly know what's going on and that this was an MSM source and we shouldn't believe our lying eyes.

Do you have any evidence that she was somehow hurting their business? According to the article, she was their biggest money maker.

This looks like nothing more than vilifying someone simply because she happens to be Russian. It's the same attitude that had Americans putting up racist posters like these during World War II:

She was, until this war occurred and she refused to condemn Putin, and her actions wrt the separatists came to light.

And note your own article states that they put forth a policy that they would not engage artists that support Putin, and it sounds like she, herself, chose to withdraw. You didn't read your own article, huh?

but hey, yeah, a private entity and an employee coming to an agreement to terminate their working situation, totally the same as anti-japanese posters and internment camps. What an absolute cumberworld you are.

per AP: One of the reactors was hit, and is on fire. It was undergoing maintenence/renovation and is not currently running, but does have nuclear fuel inside of it.

How long before we start erecting internment camps?

The problem with this type of mass media hysteria is that we're not dealing with rational folks...

International Cat Federation Bans Russian Cats From All Competitions

An international cat federation has banned all Russian-owned and bred cats from competing in international competitions, in a move that’s sure to stop Putin’s attack on Ukraine.

No, this isn’t a Babylon Bee story.

The Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) issued a statement saying it “cannot just witness these atrocities and do nothing.”

The federation has decided that “no cat bred in Russia may be imported and registered in any FIFe pedigree book outside of Russia. … No cat belonging to exhibitors living in Russia may be entered at any FIFe show outside Russia.”

The ban will apply until at least the end of May and will punish popular breeds such as the Russian Blue, Peterbald and the Siberian cat, which can cost up to $4,000 dollars.

The story attracted condemnation from Chinese users of Weibo, with one asserting, “Animals should not have nationalities.”

As any rational person will surely understand, this is virtually guaranteed to send battle tanks scurrying back to Moscow

As we explain in the video below, the outpouring of utterly moronic moral exhibitionism in the aftermath of the attack on Ukraine is now manifesting itself in a very dangerous form of vitriolic Russophobia.

It’s also a crusade being taken up by leading politicians.

In the United States, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) wants to expel all Russian students from universities, while in the UK Conservative MP called for all Russian citizens to be deported.

The only one hysterical in the case of MM's link, appears to be him. That's why he edited out the part of the article that makes it clear that the singer and her husband have chosen to leave their engagements.

                    He posted one article.

But we have multiple instances of irrational folks doing and saying irrational things because of this media hysteria, not the least of which an actual federal representative that suggested we kick russian students out of the country. Being that there are a whole lot of these irrational folks out there, ESPECIALLY on the loony left, we're probably going to see a lot of instances of this.

You know, the thing about irrational actions, like firing russian opera singers, banning russian cats, and suggesting we boot russian students from our country. Those things have a tendency to spiral out of control when you're dealing with irrational folks manipulated by mass media hysteria.

Gond is a special kind of nutty. In another thread he was arguing that we weren't in a place to judge russia's actions. When someone can't even keep track of their own arguments, they're not worth wasting any time with.
