To the point though, The danger here, on this website, is downplaying it's importance and the danger to our democracy it represents. And while 911 and the insurrection are different categories of attacks (external vs internal) and given that our military strength makes internal collapse the most like means by which this county could fall, I would say the comparison is not nearly as frivolous as your comment appears to imply.
I appreciate that you agree that 911 and this riot are in different categories.

Frivolous? I think it's best you and I don't get back to our obvious WIDE difference in viewing such things, Jim.

I'm glad to know you are still around.

Secondly, I have been quite consistent that anybody who committed a crime needs to be charged accordingly.

Third, these are CHARGES --- often, these things get kicked down to lesser charges to secure convictions. It will be interesting to see.

And Finally (for now) this whole thing has been so weaponized from the outright lie that "a Capitol Police Officer was bludgeoned to death with a fire extinguisher" (even repeated after it was proven false) to the whitewashing of the ONLY death as an immediate result of the "insurrection" - that being a nervous cop killing an unarmed woman.
I'm not positive but I think Pelosi even mentioned the "murder" of Sicknick during their J6 party.

It's hyperbole like this that hurts your credibility. The mostly peaceful protest on January 6 had zero chance of collapsing the United States from within and was considerably less destructive and deadly than the Antifa and Black Lives Matter riots that happened throughout 2020 for which you did not have a single word of condemnation.

I wonder, would you be so hot and bothered about this whole thing if the protest was about removing Trump from office instead of contesting the results of a suspicious election? I doubt it.

If it's not obvious that the left is doing everything possible to politicize this for their own advantage, ya gotta be blind. Old Joe's "I'm the uniter" speech in Georgia pretty much declared war on all conservatives.

By the way --- I watched his whole speech on FOX NEWS --- but they didn't change a single word the angry old Yeller in Chief yelled.

(perhaps some have the crazy notion that Fox News has a built in filter that changes words or makes Joe look angrier or yell louder than he was or did)

Some details have started to emerge about Sicknick. According to at least two eyewitnesses, he was in distress for an extended period of time, but his fellow officers apparently never sought medical attention for him.

There was SO MUCH "suspect" in this whole account from the get-go, and even his own brother and mother were confused by the media accounts... but the lies continued, because OMB.

Yeah, there is a reason the nets are all but ignoring his speech or playing very short snippets careful to not include his incendiary rhetoric.

Never Trumper Peggy Noonan had a good piece about it in the WSJ:

Source: Biden’s Georgia Speech Is a Break Point

He thought he was merely appealing to his base. He might have united the rest of the country against him.

It is startling when two speeches within 24 hours, neither much heralded in advance—the second wouldn’t even have been given without the first—leave you knowing you have witnessed a seminal moment in the history of an administration, but it happened this week. The president’s Tuesday speech in Atlanta, on voting rights, was a disaster for him. By the end of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s answering speech on Wednesday you knew some new break point had occurred, that President Biden might have thought he was just crooning to part of his base but the repercussions were greater than that; he was breaking in some new way with others—and didn’t know it. It is poor political practice when you fail to guess the effects of your actions. He meant to mollify an important constituency but instead he filled his opponents with honest indignation and, I suspect, encouraged in that fractured group some new unity.

The speech itself was aggressive, intemperate, not only offensive but meant to offend. It seemed prepared by people who think there is only the Democratic Party in America, that’s it, everyone else is an outsider who can be disparaged. It was a mistake on so many levels. Presidents more than others in politics have to maintain an even strain, as astronauts used to say. If a president is rhetorically manipulative and divisive on a voting-rights bill it undercuts what he’s trying to establish the next day on Covid and the economy. The over-the-top language of the speech made him seem more emotional, less competent. The portentousness—“In our lives and . . . the life of our nation, there are moments so stark that they divide all that came before them from everything that followed. They stop time”—made him appear incapable of understanding how the majority of Americans understand our own nation’s history and the vast array of its challenges.

By the end he looked like a man operating apart from the American conversation, not at its center. This can be fatal to a presidency.

He was hardly done speaking when a new Quinnipiac poll showed the usual low Biden numbers, but, most pertinently, that 49% of respondents say he is doing more to divide the country, and only 42% see him as unifying it.

In the speech Mr. Biden claimed he stands against “the forces in America that value power over principle.” Last year Georgia elected two Democratic senators. “And what’s been the reaction of Republicans in Georgia? Choose the wrong way, the undemocratic way. To them, too many people voting in a democracy is a problem.” They want to “suppress the right to vote.” They want to “subvert the election.”

This is “Jim Crow 2.0,” it’s “insidious,” it’s “the kind of power you see in totalitarian states, not in democracies.”

The problem is greater than Georgia. “The United States Senate . . . has been rendered a shell of its former self.” Its rules must be changed. “The filibuster is not used by Republicans to bring the Senate together but to pull it further apart. The filibuster has been weaponized and abused.” Senators will now “declare where they stand, not just for the moment, but for the ages.”

Most wince-inducing: “Will you stand against election subversion? Yes or no? . . . Do you want to be on the side of Dr. King or George Wallace ? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor ? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?”

If a speech can be full of itself this speech was.

                  • Something else on old Joe's rant here in Georgia on the anniversary of the Washington riot.

Source: No Fact-Checking for Biden's Atlanta Smears

One of the most frustrating things about "fact-checkers" is how they leap on conservative rhetoric against Democrats as "false" or "missing context" but give Democrats a pass to say the wildest, nastiest things about conservatives.

For example, PolitiFact pounced on Georgia Sen. David Perdue as a "Pants on Fire" liar for calling his opponent Sen. Jon Ossoff a "socialist." They gave Donald Trump a "Pants on Fire" rating for calling Ossoff and his fellow Georgia Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock "radical" and "the most extreme far-left candidates in the history of our country."

But President Joe Biden can go to Atlanta and suggest that anyone who opposes the Democrat "voting rights" bill has taken the side of George Wallace, Bull Connor and Jefferson Davis, and...crickets.

Sometimes the exaggerations aren't character assassination. On the Jan. 6 anniversary, Vice President Kamala Harris compared 1/6 to 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. Fact-checkers said nothing...except Snopes.com threw a "Mostly False" at conservative radio host Todd Starnes for saying Harris said 1/6 was "worse" than 9/11. Matthew Dowd actually said that in 2021 — and the fact-checkers yawned.

Here's a brief rundown of the top fact-checkers on Biden's Atlanta speech: PolitiFact? Nothing. FactCheck.org? Nothing. AP Fact Check? Nothing. Reuters? Nothing. CNN's Daniel Dale team? Nothing. Snopes? Nothing. Lead Stories? Nothing.

Lead Stories did offer a UFO check this month, that "Biden, Harris Did NOT Visit Area 51 By Plane On January 8, 2022."

The exception to this depressing rule is Washington Post "Fact Checker" head Glenn Kessler. He did not throw "Pinocchios" at Biden's Bull Connor garbage. But he did apply the maximum "Four Pinocchios" rating to another passage in the Atlanta speech, when Biden claimed he was so "damn old" he'd been arrested for civil-rights protesting. Kessler pointed out that Biden has a history of claiming he's been arrested, including in South Africa while he was trying to see Nelson Mandela, when there's no proof Biden's been arrested for anything.

Kessler concluded, "The primary source for this story is Biden — and we've learned over the years that he is not always a reliable source." But remember, Kessler has no running Biden lie-counter like he did for Trump, and he won't write a book about all of Biden's lies, like he did for Trump. This is because he works for the Biden-backing Washington Post.

The Post fact-checker also recently exemplified the tendency to preemptively scream "Missing Context" when Republicans mock Democrats. Last March, Kessler threw two Pinocchios at Sen. Tom Cotton for predicting that Charleston mass shooter Dylann Roof would get a $1,400 relief check from the Democrats' COVID "relief" package. Now we've learned Boston Marathon terrorist Dzhokhar Tsarnaev received that relief check, so Kessler publicly (and partially) walked back his attack on Cotton. But he kept a single Pinocchio for bad context.

There were no Pinocchios at all in an article titled "The Senate battle over whether election laws signify a new 'Jim Crow.'" Kessler quoted Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer claiming, "The heirs of Jim Crow are weakening the foundations of our democracy," and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell calling this rhetoric "nonsensical." Overall, it was a useful review of state voting laws. But despite calling it "rhetorical overkill," there were zero Pinocchios for Schumer.

No one expects liberal "fact-checkers" to mark it as a broken promise that when Biden was proclaimed winner of the 2020 election, he claimed it was "a time to heal in America," a time to "marshal the forces of decency." Liberals are staunchly in favor of smash-mouth, our-way-or-you're-racist politicking. Being decent or factual doesn't matter — only winning does.

I don't think there is a shadow of a doubt that if the MSM scrutinized old Joe's statements any where nearly as close as they did Trump's, that Biden has told more outright whoopers (and not instances of obvious hyperbole or differences of opinion) in the same time period. And that even takes into account Trump's diarrhea of the mouth and old Joe's turning his back and wandering off refusing questions or not saying anything for days.

Not really. Just watching Ted Cruz gri the FBI a day or two ago and their non-answers to questions that should be an easy "no" for, leans the likelihood even higher that Epps was an agent or an informant, and that there were likely others as well. Just a glance at the Whitmer case sends the likelihood skyrocketing.

I'm confident that when the FBI concludes its investigation of Epps, they will have found him to be a model citizen and innocent bystander who was in no way, shape, or form connected to the FBI.
